Thanks! These are new (i.e., never gigged) Chromes. They'll sound even better after 2-3 gigs.

No, the red lacquer is on the edge of the fingerboard, and then clear, so it looks darker. That's common on guitars with no binding.

Fender used to use a fairly thin rosewood veneer as a fingerboard. But in this case it's a normal fingerboard.

But the finish is also chipping off, which is why you see the actual rosewood.

The chipping is the part to worry about.

All the above, and the tuners are not straight. The worst I have ever seen. The price is ridiculous for that kind of finish and (lack of) quality control.

I beleive its not a veneer but just a bevel cut while grinding the ends of the frets... And this chipping is looking bad.

Was in NYC last week, saw one at Matt Umanov's....

String alignment completely off, the strings came to the edge of the fingerboard on one side, and didn't even came close to the pickup poles... no possible adjustment other than recutting saddles... couldn't say if the neck was installed crooked, or warped, but it sure didn't look good !

I suppose any purchase on these will have to be done after direct inspection of instrument !
