Yes, but there are other options. Curtis Novak has started making his own versions. Also, a friend of mine here in Sweden might actually start making bisonics with parts made from the ORIGINAL tools. He knows a guy who made the original bisonic at Hagström. In a couple of weeks he is traveling to the village of Älvdalen (where Hagström is located) to meet people who made pickups for Hagström. He has also been allowed to check all old storerooms in search for the original tools. If he finds them, he will be allowed to use them.

For now and the near future this pickup (and all new Guild parts) will not be available as a sale item. It may be in a few months or it maybe a few years, but eventually these will become a sale item. But for now they are exclusive to the instrument.

The edge of the fingerboard is beveled.

You would lose a veneer as soon as you tried leveling the fingerboard before installing frets.

Too bad John, if you're not happy, return it!! The dealer didn't have a qualified tech to set it up for you? The bridge is pronbably easier to ajust than a rick, if the saddle weren't cut proporely, you would need to have new ones cut and installed. I'm curious to see what other reviews come in.
On an unrelated note; John- could you take a pic of the one57tower crane dismantle in Manhattan (damaged during Sandy)?

I can't believe you'd even think of keeping it if you paid the standard price for it. Epiphone would label that a factory second and give a huge discount. Actually with the Epiphone blemishes, you rarely can find what the actual blemish is, so I don't even think that would make the cut at all.

I had been looking for a Starfire for quite a while - I have the eBay search results page for "guild starfire bass" as one of my bookmarks here at my work computer. When that popped up, I had to give it a shot - I knew it was one of the very first ones to ship and nobody on TB had one yet. The return policy and the fact that the shop is only 20 minutes from my house made it a no-brainer.

Rocky at Street Sounds was really cool about it, and told me he's meeting with the Guild folks in two weeks. They want his suggestions and I gave him every opinion I had about the bass.

There were three of them on eBay today. $1100, and free shipping. All using the stock photo so no idea what the one you'd actually get looks like. Looked at one, looked at a second and one of them sold that quick.

After seeing pix of the one on here, I'd need to see what the actual bass looked liked. Wouldn't be a bit pleased if the QC on it was lacking.

Hmmmm... interesting comment about the original Guilds weren't made that well. Every US Guild I've ever had has been exceptionally well made. Never had a Starfire bass but I do have a '72 Starfire III guitar which is a wonderful instrument.
