New 6 strings from Rondo ($170)

Been a while since i've been around these parts...

Anyways, I'm looking at the douglass six string freltesses. I'm curious if anyone knows why the trans green is 70 bucks more than the 3 tone sunburst? I noticed that the green has a flame top, where the 3ts has a quilt, but that really the only difference?
And WHY DON'T THEY MAKE THE FRETLESS IN OWL WHITE!!!?!?!?

Peace,
Drake

I just recorded a demo with one of my bands using the fretless WOB-826. My playing isn't on par with my own standards, but I thought the bass sounded great. Once I get a hold of a copy, I'll post the highlights.

A couple of models just went on sale...people need to jump on those $109 ones.

Bought a brice 6 string online from Rondo about 3 years ago.

(Although mine is the Blue version - not sure if they still make it in that colour)
Delivered to my door in Sydney Australia for around $320 Australian dollars - you get stung on freight down here!.
Set up was near perfect from the box, no fret buzz, B string was tight and punchy and quality of the finish was superb.
Bought it as an experiment into 6 strings, as I knew that at that price if I didn't like it I could easily sell it, and have kept it ever since (although my new Bongo 6 is arriving in September hee hee ).
Really a no brainer for anyone interested in trying out a 6 string - if i was really serious I may change the preamp and pups but everything else is fine.
Neck feels great to play and the frets didn't need any work at all (even the strings it was shipped with were fine).
Definately way under-valued for the quality.
Enjoy.

Yes, they do. I have a blue one, b-stock $249!

At the regular price, they are still a very good value! At what I paid, I should be going straight to jail! :hyper:

I just received the Trans Green one from Rondo. Tuned it up and it plays like a dream stock. Can't beat it for $109:)

That is good news. does it sound Jazz Bass like, or is there more of a modern vibe to it?

I was looking at putting a Music Man-style PU at the bridge, since a couple of my basses have that style PU in them, and it has become the sound I hear in my head. When I switch to my ESP/LTD, our worship leader misses having the floor vibrate under her feet.

Do you think that would be a good step forward? Most say the bass is fine as it is. Not to put you on the spot, bro, (but I will anyway:D), what do you think?

oyo

PS - I realize the upgrade will cost nearly as much as the bass did, and it will take careful routing, so as not to mess up a nice instrument, but I love that MM sound! MMmmmm! Good.:p

after reading up on it on TalkBass and especially this thread, I received my dark green WEB 826 today (fretted).

:hmm:

OK, so it was only $110. I don't know how to do a basic set-up. I've got frett buzz galore on the E and B, and the strings make me want to gouge my eyes out. the sound is tinny and i have 'light feedback' from my ancient 15w practice amp. Sure, I would do well to get a better amp, but not just for a $110 bass. My fretless squier sounds like a gazillion times better on the same weeny amp.

is this hunk of wood salvageable with a set of new strings and a few turns of an allen wrench? or should i just return it? i'm really ambivalent about bringing it in for a $60 set up. what's a girl to do?

:help:

My personal experience is that some of the basses from Rondo come with horrible strings. The ones on my Brice gave me the same reaction as you are having. My experience also is that a setup is absolutely required for most Rondo basses. Get the set up and a set of strings. It will be worth it.
