New 6 strings from Rondo ($170)

I just ordered the Douglas WEB-846 in the flamed top green color. I can't wait to get it!

What's the string spacing at the bridge?
I think I saw somewhere that it's about 18mm, a little less than a standard 4-string spacing.

I can't wait to hear your thoughts! I'm right on the edge of buying one of these basses, but I don't want to through my money away. Does Rondo have a return policy? :D

Can anyone confirm the 18mm?
I am trying to find some 6's to try out and see if it is how I want to go (5 or 6). But, I want 34" scale, and I figure 17mm would be a close call for doing any slapping- no? 18mm should be pretty nice, as 19mm is what I have on two basses right now, and they are fine for a little slap n tickle :D If it is 18mm spacing, I am grabbing one ASAP...

(is Rondo pretty good with customers calling? I am guessing they would know the detailed specs on this bass, right?
Or would they simply read 'em off a piece of paper, thus not being "real world" specs?)

I want this one -http://www.rondomusic.net/hxb40635.html
natural bubinga, matching headstock, black hardware - sweeeeeet!
its got soapbar pups instead of jazz-style, but I have a MIM jazz and it doesnt get much play, so a 6 banger jazz would get less I imagine.

I'd also get an Aguilar OBP-3TK/PP too. bass, treble, and push/pull midrange. Add that to the passive/active switch already on the bass and I'd be set :D

450 for a quality sixer sounds good to me

Well, I had the SX 5 fretless strung EADGC for awhile, then got flack from guitarists that "wanted to sound deep", so I strung it BEADG, which actually does work better in the current group I play, but then today, I finally snapped the G-string whilst experimenting tuning it up to C. I miss that C-string so much!!! Soo....

I just ordered the WOB-826. Damn, credit card debt sucks, but my amp setup is complete, and with this bass, I'll actually be selling stuff I don't need now, and hopefully I'll climb out of this debt quickly. The best of both worlds will be satisfied now, me having the high C under my fingers, and everyone else hearing the pleasure of a low B, and truthfully, both strings hold equal value to me, so this is the best purchase I could have made.

Okay, I'll stop rambling like a drunk. :o

Ask her for one for Christmas! :hyper:

Not a bad idea at all. That means I'd have to buy HER something though (we don't really exchange gifts anymore, we usually just buy what we want when we can afford it).

On a side note, if I DID get one, I think I'd de-badge it. I think I'd rather have no markings and confuse people than have "Douglas" on it. This way, if anyone asks, I can just say it's a custom one-off.

Got the WOB-826 in the mail today. Finish is good, neck is perfectly set up as far as I can tell, action is a little high, but I'll adjust that. I love having the C string and B string, and so far, no major issues navigating around the neck, and I don't anticipate any.

However, I'm stuck in a debacle. The playability of this thing is to die for, but the electronics are to die from, actually at least twice as bad as in my SX! The neck pickup puts out major 60 cycle hum like a single pickup, but the neck doesn't put out any 60 cycle hum. I almost wonder if I should return this thing and either get another one or stick with my SX.

Just got a new set of strings for the WOB, and that helped a ton having a 130 in the attic instead of a 110. I also talked to the person who owns the shop, and he said the problems it has are probably minor (paraphrased). It looks like I'll keep this around then. :)

*BUMP*

I've been using the fretless WOB for awhile now. This definately needs new tuners, as the current tuners seem to lose their hold easily. The sound is actually better than I hoped for, obviously not Digiorgio's dragon bass, but it's own unique quality nonetheless. The only thing that still annoys me is that the humming I described earlier is actually interference coming from my house. Everywhere else I've played this bass, not a lick of hum.

Beyond that, I have no recording capabilities right now, but when I do, I'll put up some sound clips.

Another update on this bass, it turns out that the bridge was mounted too far back to properly intonate the D, G, and C strings. I've contacted Rondo Music, and I'll see what they have to say about it. Hopefully I'll be able to exchange it, but if not, I'm not going to throw in the towel just yet.
