He has it mentioned in his current gear, FWIW of course. I'd be interested to know to since I'm apparently the first to have jumped on it. I did find that after a trip to the auto shop, persay, it's a fine bass. It actually sounds suprisingly decent also, blows me away for the $180 or whatever it is. Also, the WOB 826 isn't a heavy bass at all I found. The neck doesn't dive as much as you would think either, so that's good.

I got it in the mail about a week ago but I couldn't open it until today (Xmas). I played it for maybe 45 minutes but then had stuff to do.

Sounded fine. I'm no fretless expert but it seemed to have a good amount of mwah.

Setup out of the box was decent. I'm going to sit down and do some fine tuning of the setup but for now it's fine.

The strings were kinda crappy (roundwounds, also) so I'm swapping them out for some Rotosound 77's. After they come I will give you guys a better review of the sound.

The pickups didn't make any type of noticeable hum. When I soloed one of the pickups there was a tiny bit but not enough to matter.

All around probably the best money I've ever spent on bass. $190 to my door!

Ok, here is my thing....and I have been reading the reviews on mainly the Brice basses. I currently play a Modulus Q5 and have been thinking about a 6 string but I have only played a 6 string for about 10 minutes before.....so I need something that will give me a great idea of what a 6er is all about.

And since I am used to playing a Modulus I am worried that the Brice will be way too sucky...

So should I get the Brice HX 406 or whatever? Does anyone have a pic of the maple looking one?
I have a feeling the Brice will feel fine in relation to your modulus. My Rondo 6er doesn't really bother me when I switch from my GTBD-7, which is a very nice instrument. Plus, the 6/5 difference will make it less noticeable like the fretless/fretted difference does for me.

I was a skeptic like you guys before, but now I'm a believer. The reviews are all accurrate. All that's left to do is pull the trigger.

That said, don't expect a lifetime instrument. My fretless is fine to play but the neck is pretty chunky for my taste and the string spacing pretty tight, although on a fretless it's not a big deal because you don't really slap with it.

Would I gig with it? Sure. I wouldn't play it all night just because it's fretless, but I wouldn't hesitate to pull it out if I needed it.

Though I've no experience with the Rondo brand as such, they appear to be one of a growing number of budget instrument makers. And, largely, these budget instruments are very good for the price. Indeed, some might say they are very good despite the price!!

Before buying the used Harper fretless 6 I did some research. It seems there are one or two Far Eastern factories making guitar bodies, necks, etc to a very high standard, and it is these bodied and necks that get built then badged. One factory, I discovered, makes theses components for over 400 different brand names ... including the big boys for their lower priced models: as I remember, Fender and Ibanez were named amongst them. Another manufacturer is Cort. Though they make for that brand, their business is aimed at making bodies and necks for other's to badge as their own.

The manufacturing machinery at a given factory is surely set up to make the highest quality possible? It seems ludicrous that they make low quality gear for one badge then high quality for another.

I'm sure players of all levels will benefit from these budget priced but non-budget quality instruments.

Just a thought.

John

Thanks for the help guys. My main thing is just that I say to myself "How can a $200 6er even be close to a good guitar"...but like you said, the reviews online are all praising the basses.

I guess my main concern was that maybe the reviews were coming from people that maybe had never played a nicer bass...that might sound ridiculous...but I have played a lot of crappy basses and crappy basses may as well be tossed in the trash...to me anyways.

Does anyone have any pics they can post of their Brice and/or Douglas that might not be in this thread?

Thanks again!

Alex, nice! It looks pretty cool. Which model is that? How do you like compared to your other basses?

Also, how well do they stay in tune? That is my main concern.
Meh some of the other fretless 6ers looked cooler but this was the only one with humbuckers, and I was worried about pickup hum, so I ended up with this one.

It's the WOB 826. I've had it for almost 3 days now and it hasn't gone out of tune. I wouldn't say that that is a concern.

Maybe it will become a problem over time? I don't see why it would but I'll keep tabs on it and update you guys.
