Double Bass New A string rattles

Check that your bridge is upright and in the right position. Try a thickish calling card under the string at the nut. The groove may be too low for your new string. Does the rattle only occur in the lower positions? Are you set up with a low jazz action.? Arco may need a somewhat higher action because weighing on the strings. Is there less string tension than the brand you have replaced? Leave the sound post alone. Moving this is not going to solve you problem IMO.

Perhaps a luthier may need to check out and increase the degree of scoop in the fingerboard slightly, not a big job.
