NEW Acoustic 360/361

The problem with that review is not that it's "well written." It's that it's long on "marketing" like talking about the helpfulness of the manual and the fact that "Flea has bought 10!" while also somewhat short on actual gig stories, real information that gigging bassists find useful, and instead talks a lot about features like a "footswitch box" and "horn switch."

Plus the "For more information, click here, it's a great site" line reads like a commercial, not like a "I picked up this amp and it rocks!"

Actually Flea Has Bought 12......LOL

Sorry, couldn't resist!

Anyway, I agree with all the above: Essentially it is an ad IMO -- the point is whether it's a rule violation or not.

The fact that it's well written at least has some bearing, I think: If e.g. a 13 year old kid gets on line and writes along the lines of "Brand XYZ kick *ss! I just bought one! It comes with a poster of the worlds fastest bass player, Tony Triplet, and a pack of super fast picks. Click here to order one->", it's also an ad, but nobody would get upset, right?

I don't mean to split hairs, I'm just curious about this. Perhaps a moderator could chime in, and clarify the matter.

Looks like Flea has decided his GK sound/tone is better for him. Also listening to multiple (current tour) YT vids..... his live GK sound is way better than the Acoustics. But thats only my opinion....have a listen! There is alot of vids from the last 2 months.

Interesting! RHCP isn't my cup of tea, so I haven't watched their vids, except for a couple that were linked in threads over here. Could you please provide a link, where he's playing GK again (I did a quick search but no luck)?

I had a 370 many years ago that I still consider as probably the best amp I've ever owned. Always took a lickin' & kept on tickin'! Played it with 2 Sunn single 18" folded horn (smaller than the Acoustic) cabs, and sometimes with a Road 2 - 18" cab. Id have one of these beasts on order IF...I still had a back...I had the money...I had a way to get it around...AND I had the patience to wait for my order to be processed, built, and shipped :p

I wish them well :D

Heh. As a Florida native, I'm amazed that the one place in the entire US that a particular high-end bass rig is being sold (outside of its HQ) is in a town full of tourists dominated by T-shirt shops with giant flashing signs. Funny.:D
While 100% true, it's also got a pretty huge concentration of music stores and musicians. It won't be there too long, quite honestly. But I can't get motivated to make the hour long drive to go try it out. Long way to go to come home emptyhanded, and Ampeg are my boys ;)

So I have an Ampeg PF-500 running through the Ampeg 610 HLF. I've only had it fore a few weeks. Sometime when i play through it, it can get a bit of a distorted sound. Not always though. Not sure if its the amp or the cab thats the issue. Anyone mind chiming in on this for me? Maybe its a bad mix with the PF-500 and the 610 HLF?

If you crank the gain knob past 1 or 2:00, you will get some overdrive out of it. It's either that or you're cranking loud enough to make the speakers distort. I'd say it's the gain since that cab should be able to take the wattage a PF500 can give it.

Pretty simple. If the OP has no relationship to the product or company, he is free to post any comment or review he wants as long as the usage agreement is honored. You are not required to agree with it as long as you disagree respectfully. The OP here declares no - and disavows any - relationship to Acoustic USA, Grexa, Vetchking and so forth. No one has offered any credible evidence to the contrary that I am aware of.

We are aware of this thread as well as the periodic appearance of positively worded review threads. Like most things in life, this is all likely best viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism. Go find a rig, play it, review it and post it if you have that option. If you like it, great. If not, that's fine too.

Here's my PERSONAL opinion. I have an old Acoustic rig. It sounds great. It is so big it doesn't fit in my car and I am too old to move the 135 lb cab anywhere. I can't see living in the past. If the look and sound appeal to you and you have a use for it and have the cash, be my guest. As a set piece in the music room it's fine. I would never gig it again, given the quality of lighter gear out there in today's marketplace.

Fittingly enough; There are lots of reports of him going back to his GK rig for live shows.
Makes sense. If I were a sound man, or the musical director, or the producer, I wouldn't want even one folded horn up there on stage kneecapping the mains (aka FOH). I can't imagine a more-troublesome configuration in terms of delay-related reinforcements and cancellations -- that is, unless the sound man is letting Flea's folded horns carry the bass all on their own, but even then he'd have no control over their volume unless they were modded. (He'd be forced to mix to the bass amps' SPL.)

Craig, what's the difference between using a huge Acoustic rig screaming loud vs a huge GK rig screaming loud? Either way it's going to be heard in the house. Whether folded horn or direct radiator, same thing.

BTW, I have this feeling that Flea can do whatever he wants and the soundman will volunteer opinions but Flea is the boss. Don't know why I think that, other than Flea is the boss ;)

Jimmy, I just checked and you have over 51,000 posts. Good God Man!!! Are you a professional TBer or something???

Cool, Jimmy, I didn't know that. Guess that makes sense given the potential wealth of gigs.

Driving an hour ain't so bad, you should be used to it there in Sprawlville North (I'm from Ft. Lauderdale, in Sprawlville South ;).

If I were you I'd be posting in the 'musicians who don't gig' thread... that's terrible from my spoiled Seattle-ite perspective. Most gigs for me are no more than ten to fifteen minutes from either my house or either of the bands' rehearsal spaces.

Hey, Jim. It's the "huge" part that's acoustically troublesome, though due to FHs' efficiency it'd be far worse with them than with sealed or reflex cabs, on a per-cab (or per stage square foot) basis, all else being equal.

I don't know about that business about Flea being the boss in this matter. Not saying you're wrong, just saying I don't know. I also don't know who makes what decisions in that band about stage amps (selection and usage) and whether they're made on a scientific basis, i.e. taking the entire system into account.

They're made on an advertising budget/marketability basis, it has nothing to do with sound. Kids see their "hero" plays amp X, the people that make amp X sell more of them. It's no different than it is with pro athletes and shoes or actresses and hairstyles.
