Double Bass New Acoustic Image 'DOUBLESHOT'

I did a free improv show last night and the Clarus/Doubleshot combo was superb for it. I used my Ischell into an Art Tube Mic Preamp into the Clarus. The little tube pre helped solve some little sonic issues I was having with clarity at higher volumes with the Ischell and Clarus, and I think it got me really near the never ending MBOL search. Pizz was round and clear and normal arco and extended techniques came through with no issue. I’m gonna look into getting a nicer tube pre down the line, but I think I may have found my amplification setup for the foreseeable future.
That's great that the Ischell and the DS is working so well, Do you mind to share where is the Ischell on your bass and what position are using it?....I have mine on flat position then I EQ on the Pre, but I fell that the bow sounds a bit scratchy.

For my bass it works best a few inches below the bass side bridge foot, aligning with the bass bar. That had the best pizz and arco sound for me. On the EQ on the Clarus, I've found I've needed to slightly boost the treble and mids and add a touch of low pass filter due to the more dark nature of the Clarus. When I was primarily using a Markbass CMD121 it was the opposite and I had to drastically lower the treble and give the bass a boost.

Here's my Doubleshot setup FWIW. Stands and all...I play seated, so I use a "short" pole mount.

Do people like this speaker just as is?? I’m looking into one, but don’t want to lug around mounting poles.. is the way it was specifically designed (be on the ground) make it worth getting? Would be using this with a lundgaard 2 channel, FC, Xlson mic
Pete,

I like it a lot. Both on the ground and elevated. Elevating the cab is my preference. At ISB last year Pete Coco, @Chris Fitzgerald, and Ron Carter(he elevated it) sounded great with it.

I haven't found the need to elevate it,...yet.

Me either, just put it on an Auralex Gramma pad to decouple it from the floor. It's hard for me to rationalize using the DoubleShot and then have the nuisance value of carrying extra stands along to a gig. :blackeye:

My daughter and I gave a small impromptu outdoor concert for about 25 of our socially distancing neighbors. I used my SL-2 and DoubleShot as a makeshift PA, and it worked great! I went direct to one channel from my Gage Lifeline, and violin went through my old SM-58 into the other channel. Could’ve used a little reverb, but otherwise could hear both instruments clearly from many feet away.

It's a great thing about Acoustic Image gear that you can use their rigs for multiple instruments—often more than one at a time. I've often had a piano trio with piano, bass, and vocals running through my old Coda and its extension speaker. Your particular experience here is *really* interesting since the DoubleShot's side-firing speakers would not have walls etc. to bounce sound off. Did anybody do a bit of a walkaround to see if there was much difference side-front-side? I'd be really curious.:wideyed:

No, unfortunately, there was no one around who could give me that kind of feedback. You can't see from the picture that there were houses on either side of us, so that may have provided some resonance. My wife recorded some iPhone video, but it she was nearly on top of the speaker, but one guy behind the audience (maybe 75ft away straight in front of us) also recorded some phone video that caught the full-range sound pretty decently.

I had one of the original Contras (amp on a stick)...loved it. Got stolen a few years back when I was living in Asia.
I just picked up a Clarus 1 (due to arrive next week), and very much want a Doubleshot. I'll probably dole out some coin over the next month. Anyone know any shops in TX that might have a used Doubleshot? I checked the AI website, but no dealers here in TX. Anyone see a used one up for grabs? None in the TB classifieds.
