New Aguilar pedal ?

It's a shame that the design of the Tone Hammer is a bit mad. It would be the perfect pre for me if I could switch between clean and AGS on the fly. Having said that, I found that the AGS circuit is the answer to all of my overdrive needs.. I think it sounds great!

Been using the Tone Hammer for years and I love everything about it...except the AGS volume boost issue. As you say, you can't really change it on the fly without having a big volume difference between the two. It annoyed me so much that I ignored the AGS for years.

What I started doing last year, though, was playing with the AGS engaged all the time and have it set as a subtle od, but with enough gain to make it growl if I dig in more. So, now I use it as my base tone and engage my other drive (Darkglass VMT) when I need more dirt. It's worked great for me so far!

When I had a THDI that's how I used it. The AGS always on, just above minimum. Added a whole lot.

Zombie thread alert. Have a question for the DB925 users here. Since it doesn't have a level knob, is it feasible to use a separate boost as its level knob if run at the same time?

I have an Emma Discumbobulator v2 envelope filter and it has a separate 10db clean boost footswitch, so I was wondering if that type of set up could remedy the lack of volume control in the DB925. Hope this makes sense!

It doesn't really, since the Aguilar DB925 is boost only, so it would only get louder as you turn it's 2 EQ knobs, an additional boost would only make the level difference even worse, not better, you would need a pedal that attenuated the DB925 to fix it.

Beside the level difference would vary depending on how you set the EQ knobs of the DB925, so a fixed 10dB either way wouldn't really fix it under any circumstances anyway.

Thanks for your reply! Aaaargh I didn't realize the DB925 was boost only. Hmmm that seems like a legit limitation. I wonder if manipulating the level control on the compressor could address that since that isn't a boost. Regardless, doing that could affect how other effects interact with the compressor. Well, seems like the DB925 isn't what I'm looking for. Thank you again!

This was the comparison I was most interested in when I first learned about the 925. They have the same at-a-glance stats: 2 band boost only at 40 and 4k.

I love my Sadowsky sbp and I'm done with my preamp chase. I was just curious to hear a practical comparison from someone who has used both.

I have them both. It seems like the 925 has a broader range of frequency that it boosts compared to the tighter Q of the Sadowsky.
