I am a pretty loyal Aguilar user and have been for many years now. I like the refreshed look and really curious to how this drive section is different from the AGS in the OG if any at all. What I felt was a BIG miss for the V2 is that they did not include the cab IR options. To me this is more important on the preamp pedal than in the heads. Just my thoughts.....Tone Hammer Preamp

I will be looking forward to the demos. No mention of phantom power compatibility on the description.
Totally agree. An IR option on the preamp would have made it pretty much perfect, especially since there’s a dedicated Drive switch and knob. We all know that DI’d drive can get fizzy, an IR would have solved that. As you said, IR’s on amp heads is a rare feature that is not necessarily needed, whereas it would change the whole dynamic on a pedal preamp.
Had the original, still missing the high mids I love. 1.5K-2.5K.
I would have been way more interested if it was for this little feature. I like my GK400RB, but that bright switch hits the high mids in that range nicely(also missing those freqs on the normal eq). My pedals do the rest.
It never sounded bad(clean, I never liked the overdrive), but I found what I wanted with companies like Darkglass, and at times, Tech21.

I wonder if the Engage button affects the XLR out. On the AG it only affects the 1.4" out. You cannot bypass the preamp using XLR or headphones no matter what the LED says. This always seemed wrong to me but maybe it makes sense in certain scenarios. As I run ampless I wondered what was going on.
Nevertheless I'm interested in the new TH pedal. The lack of IR doesn't bother me currently. I've always preferred the non-IR sound in whatever I've had.

Unless I'm mistaken, the addition of the Drive control allows you to set AGS circuit at a reasonable level so when engaging you have more control over the volume. Wasn't that one of the issues with the previous version, that if you set the AGS where you wanted, it could be way louder that the clean setting?

I initially thought it that way (as a volume control), but according to the new manual, and in line with the wording in the TH heads' controls ("Drive" instead of "AGS"), the Drive control on the THDI v2 could be, in fact, more like the Drive control on the heads. If that's the case, I think it's a really neat addition.
While I've no doubt being able to use it now as a two channel preamp is a good thing..... I really miss the old graphic designer they had, so much more considered design, typography and layout visually.
Same with their other "new" pedals.

Really... I think it looks great.
It already has a bunch of high (and low) cut baked in when in drive mode - the TH is many things but fizzy is not one of them!
I wish they could have kept phantom power but not a huge deal. Really want to see someone do a review with more focus on the AGS/drive interactions.
Gross oversight IMO. I’m sure the folks at Aguilar discussed and decided most players have some sort of power supply these days, why spend extra.
Then you got the guy wanting to throw the preamp in a bag and go play at the club, but he’ll now get a BDDI.
Wish they was an internal trim for the high end roll off that's baked into the TH pre.
