... but I still have no use for a 30w amp.
tube power sections have more pleasing distortion that can be mistaken for clean tones. so you can turn them past their rms wattage and not sound all broken up. these will go louder than you'd think, but i don't think they'll quite hit what a 100w ss amp will do clean.I'll preface by saying that tube amps are something I've never understood, but I think I read a few pages back that a 30w tube amp is roughly equivalent to a 100w solid state amp? (Apologies, I'm at work and don't have time to scroll back and confirm...) If that's true, they'd probably still tell me to turn it down, but I guess I could make this new B-15 work for my current gig...*sigh*
otoh, who cares? it's a b-15!
if i was a betting man, i'd bet mark made the cab with the 8 t-nuts for the speaker but the others were made by someone else. maybe that's the prototype.
fair point, david.4-bolt is plenty for the cast frame drivers since there's no flex of the basket... but the 8 is a nice addition for some of the pressed steel frame drivers where you can get a nice tight seal without over-flexing the basket or baffle.
I was wondering what the deal was with that picture. Don't they only have 4 in the originals anyhow? (Though the 8 is probably better and a nice addition if it was done by Mark). At least I think the speaker in mine is mounted with 4, although it was swapped for a JBL so that could have just been a product of the swap and not original....
Clint - I'm pretty sure yours has been modified. Ampeg didn't use t-nuts to mount the speakers. They used what was essentially a nail with an #8-32 thread on it driven through the wood at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions.Mine has eight also...

They're done the way I do mine, with the spacers mounted to the back of the grille baffle.hey, just noticed something else...looks like no baffle spacers on the inner baffle. i see holes drilled to mount the outer baffle, but it seems they're doing something different to space them. interesting...
here all this time i thought you did them the old way. i should take apart your cab more oftenThey're done the way I do mine, with the spacers mounted to the back of the grille baffle.
