New, and confused about size vs. tone

As already mentioned Phil Jones uses all kinds of relatively tiny speakers, is that wrong?
So how about the new stick arrays of tiny speakers for PA?
All very usable on bass.

Personally I still prefer "oldschool" PA tops which are loaded with 10" or even 12" drivers for the low mids and midrange content.
And of course horn loaded drivers for the treble/high content as well.

I had often the ability to listen to these skinny tower PAs and of course these skinny towers do make sound but, honestly the sound these skinny things do in the house (and also at free air evennts) is not really to may taste.
It might be ok for an acoustic duo but not for a rock band where I want to have (just for example) the snare drum in the main mix at FOH.

Radiation impedance is basically the load on the driver due to the vibrating air mass. The larger the radiating area (and the dresser the axial displacement), the greater the air mass and the greater the loading on the driver which influences a designer’s choice of motor strength.

One of the models used to describe speaker behavior is the electronic transformer, since the speaker is in a sense an acoustic transformer.

I would have thought that for bass, the bigger the speaker (15", 18"), the better the tone.

But, it seems like people here get great (better?) bass tone from a 4X10 or 8X10.

What am I missing?
I use a 2 x 10 on most gigs...been that way for more than a decade. If a PA is involved, my gear’s just a security blanket. I get some resonance from a wooden stage/floor. Cement I usually run a DI to the band’s PA for a little boost. We’re not loud nor was the Country band I was in. Hartke LH1000 and a LDS 2 x 10 cab.
