Why is VZ Navigator crapware? Have you used it? I know several people who use that app and rely on it.

Besides, it says those apps will be "available in the market", not preinstalled like the Mobile Hotspot. Speaking of, how is that also crapware?

You dig your AT&T iPhone, which is cool. So I have to ask, what is the extent of your experience using Verizon and the apps they include on their smartphones?

That bit confused me... what "market"? The App Store? So they'll be available for the iPhone on other carriers too, or are Verizon setting up their own separate iPhone market? If so, that's worrying...

On AT&T, it came with first-party apps only (ie, ones from Apple). That's it. AT&T didn't put anything else on there.

It's pre-installed third-party software. Same as when you buy a Windows PC and there's stuff pre-installed on there, like AOL or Norton. Sure, Norton might be useful and all, but I disagree with the pre-installation of third-party software on any device, especially when it's often quite hard to remove it.

They could be doing their own market. Why not? Let them make their money, too.

I can think of plenty of apps from Apple that are just as bad, if not worse, than VZ Navigator, that I wouldn't want on any device.

The fact that I can't get a usable AT&T signal at my office and at my house (I'm in the suburbs of Los Angeles - not exactly a remote location), and in many of the areas where my company does business was the deal-breaker for me. For service-coverage where I live, Verizon is superior by a long shot. The more I hear about the iPhone for Verizon, the more happy I am that I went with a Droid X.

Unlikely. The iPhone ecosystem relies on iTunes and the Apple App Store. There's no way to use any other app store, or, indeed, to install apps, other than downloading them directly on the device.

I'd imagine they'll have some way of locking certain apps to a particular carrier (ie, Verizon), even though there's none of that now for any other carrier.

EDIT: I say unlikely, but, then again, I thought it was unlikely that they'd launch the iPhone on Verizon. :D

I don't see why Verizon would create their own market for the iPhone. They didn't for the Droids.

VZ Navigator is a pretty good program (I used it frequently with my previous Blackberry). However, it requires an additional monthly fee. Google Maps/Navigation on my Droid works fine and is free.

I agree. I find most negative posts are from people trying to use or make the iPad something it's not meant to be. Depending on what V2 has to offer in "upgrades" I may get what will hopefully be a less expensive V1 for our 2nd iPad as it does everything we need.

I'm going to wait and see about phones. I am an Alltel/AT&T "customer" right now. My contract is up in May. I'm keeping what I have until then and hopefully everything will have washed out a bit and I'll be able to make a good decession.

I actually just downloaded this for my Droid. It seems OK, but I'm not going to switch my routine from what I already use. I don't see where it says there's a monthly fee for it, though. Maybe it's included in my package or something already.

Maybe it's just the way my coverage package is structured (previously Blackberry). My monthly charges went down $10 because I don't need VZNav any more.

Nope, Apple reserves the right to put awful apps on the phone to themselves.

Stocks, weather, voice memos, and gamecenter need to go. Anyone else have a 'junk' group?
