New Apple products for 2011

I have heard that the new iPad will be running at least a partial version of Lion when they both come out. I assume this also means that it will have a USB port. Methinks that apple just put the first generation iPad out with the iOSX software to corner the market and the next one will have what everyone really wants.

From what I saw at the Apple keynote, it's more that Lion will be taking some cues from iOS (features like dragging one icon on top of another creates a folder, various user interface elements such as in-window scrollbars, and stuff like that), but I think they're going to remain separate OS's. iOS is based on the Darwin kernel (same as OSX) but the front-end interface is totally different. iOS is completely touch-centric, whereas OSX is still going to have to cater to the more traditional keyboard/mouse/trackpad interface, albeit with a lot more support for touch gestures and so on.

Apparently the next iPad is going to have a few improvements such as front and rear-mounted cameras, a slightly smaller form factor and larger speakers, as well as increased storage (128GB is the figure that's being bandied about). There's companies at CES right now showing off cases for the Mk2 iPad.

I heard talk about legislation in Europe that would prohibit proprietary connections, such as Apple's stupid dock port. The new iPad might only have a standardized USB port, without anything else that's significant, although I would put money on there being front and rear-facing cameras.

Personally, I don't think I will be picking up any Apple products any time soon. I'd be more interested to see what the next batch of Android tablets can do, especially if Google gets with it and makes the OS a little more tablet-friendly. The Archos 101 is pretty slick looking, and does WAY more stuff than the iPad, for quite a bit less, but a few of the specs have me holding out on it. Hopefully they will update it soon.

Android 3.0 is supposedly gonna be mainly for tablets...which is humming me out and making me loose faith in android. Especially with chrome OS right around the corner... but who knows. Android rumors have generally always been wrong....

The mytouch 4G hasn't been rooted yet, its NANDlocked...bleh. I've actually never rooted a phone, I should root my older android phones while I wait for the geniuses to crack my current one...

The principle of the idea - android is a mobile OS, and tablets aren't mobile as much as the manufacturers want them to be. Just because Apple can be lazy and slap iOs on everything like its the same item, but google should show some brains and use chrome OS as its meant to be used, in laptops (which, as much as some would disagree, a tablet is). A phone calls people, a laptop doesn't.
