NEW AVATAR B412 NEO CABINET

Please don't let the position of the drivers be an issue for you. This cabinet is amazing. Aside from the incredible sound, it's compact, lightweight and easy for one person to carry. A taller cabinet in my opinion would be more awkward to gig with. I still wholeheartedly recommend this cab. I love mine!!!

Maybe you are right. I shouldn't be completely closed to this cab if it brings the thunder. What does does baby weigh?

4x12's are typically for more of the doom/stoner type crowd, who just want a ton of big speakers in boxes that they can stack and run an Orange or Hiwatt/ what have you into.

That's just silly talk, bro...I know rockabilly upright players who swear by 412 cabs, not for volume or looks, but to get a big full clear sound without having to crank the amps too loud. Personally, for smallish gigs, my Genz Uber212 sounds shockingly full, but for bigger gigs I run and additional Uber 410...sounds huge and clear for upright bass.

I also agree with the staggered/taller 412 idea...my only complaint about my Uber 212 is how low to the ground it is...if an Uber 412 comes out, I'll be grabbing one :)

Neo Price inflation/Which Avatar Cab???
Hey I just read an article in the Wall Street Journal about the cost of rare elements...Neodymium in particular going through the roof. I don't have it anymore but I think it went up more than ten-fold since 2009. I about dropped my fork over breakfast as I'm looking at Avatar cabs right now.

On that note, Maybe I should go ahead and post my question here. I'm looking for a cabinet that I can expand on. Weight is an issue (back), I want it pretty portable and I'm between these three models, size and weight listed next to each.

B210 44lbs 18Hx24.5Wx16.5D
B212 56lbs 27Hx24.5Wx16.5D
B410 65lbs 27Hx24.5x16.5D

Head isn't an issue because I want to get the cab, then try out heads WITH the cab to get what I like best. Mostly classic rock, early 90's rock, hopefully some motown, maybe a little funk depending where things go. I want to be able to throw it in my car for rehearsals, but also be able to handle a backyard party or small to medium bar.
and...I'm buying with an eye to the future. My thinking is get a 212, and if I want more of the same I'll buy another 212 down the road, need deeper...get a 1x15, or go the other direction and add a 210. Seems the 212 is "right in the middle." Then there is the 4x10, almost the same weight as the 212, but bigger and really outside budget, but long run it could be the way to go. A 412 seems like to much/too big for my needs. I'm open to ANY advice or opinions. I emailed the company and the response was "all are great choices" which didn't really help me out.
**If I should post this somewhere else please let me know where...Not a frequent poster. Thanks!

Interesting cab. If I didn't already have a pair of B212s, I'd consider one.

The cab looks small for what it contains, but on the other hand the web site says Eminence was in on the design, so I have to believe it goes reasonably deep and doesn't have too much of a hump before drop-off.

Put your dirty mind away.

Even though the square form factor is less than optimal, it would be a logistical asset for me for getting the cab up and down stairs unassisted, because it could be rolled up or down two or three steps at a time, like a square wheel. Done that many times with my B212s when, mysteriously and without any warning, no one seemed to be around to help with a carry-up or carry-down.

I would've liked to see a 5" midrange in place of that stupid tweeter. (I've always thought that the majority of bass players are poorly served by this current tweeter business.) But maybe in this cab there wasn't room for a mid.

Sure would like to know what the -3dB point is. Probably never will, tho'...

I agree with the crowd that wants to see staggered alignment of the drivers. I am not a fan of wide cabinets. I don't move my cabinets very often but I'd much rather roll my 810 than bend over to bear hug a 412. Without hearing either of the cabs, I'd give my money to GK for their 412, simply on the basis of design.

On an unrelated note, Bob's Guitars in Cedar Falls, IA has an SVT CL/ SVT810 Heritage stack (the head is tagged as being #88 of 350). It was painful to walk by without taking it for a spin. I don't feel worthy of playing one of those in a store, though.

We have some cheap 412 bass cab at our rehearsal studio and its thunderous, I can't imagine how much better this would sound......

For the record I would have much rather saw Avatar do something like the GB Neox 212 and do a vertical stacking stacking cab.... I would have been all over a pair of those.

I'm sure 4 of those 12's are massive, but just taking an existing guitar cab and adding angled ports at the bottom as suggested by the speaker manufacturer doesn't say much for 'design' or it being efficient IMHO.

I agree with the others that it seems very pricey for a guitar cab with 4 12's in it.

.

I can vouche for the staggered speaker configuration in some 4x12 cabinets. I don't have to deadlift my Aguilar GS412 into the back of my Honda CRV since it is tall enough to tilt in. Built in wheels and handles means I don't need to haul a hand truck to move it. It also has NEO speakers so it's not nearly as heavy as it looks.

Having said that, I don't play venues anymore where it makes sense to keep it, so it's for sale:

Erm... I'll just give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn't mean that as an insult...

I'll give you that fEARful designs and major-manufacturer 3-ways are better-sounding-- to certain people, for certain music. I would agree that they are great for uprights, jazz, Chicago Blues, Modern R&B, Pop, Metal-core, even Nu-Metal. Clarity and articulation is an absolute must for those styles, IMHO (this based on my experience with an Uber-Quad).

But, there are certain styles for which a big, wooly 4x12 is totally appropriate-- Texas Blues, Blues-Rock, Soul, Early R&B, Oldies, Classic Rock, NWOBHM, Thrash/Speed Metal, and, yes, Doom/Stoner Metal.

Should we all throw out our old Fenders, Guild Starfires, and Rickenbackers because they don't sound like a modern, Bartolini-equipped, neck-thru boutique bass?

Insult? Not meant as such.

I simply meant it in, the majority of people i've seen that use a 4x12 play that. Do other people? Sure.

No offense was meant for that.... And for the record, i personally use a VOX stlye Teardrop bass with a 100w tube head into an old school 2x15. No coffee table basses into 1,000w hybrid amps into 3 ways here. :hiding:

A single eminence neo 12" goes for 200$

multiply x 4 thats 800 bucks just for raw speakers, add the cab, handles, grill and casters.....

I have no clue what you screaming about avatar seems to be cut rating the market as always, with the same old eminence drivers, stuffed into cheap pre cut boxes.

vertical would be ideal, staggered is just as crappy as a square.

Buying 2 2x12 cabinets and stacking them vertical is ideal....but no matter what a 4x12 is going to need less power and will have more bass than a 4x10.

in the end who cares, you just getting a wood box with eminence speakers...same krap as all the others......
People say that the look of a cabinet doesnt make a difference...and really its the only dam difference...and avatars are freakin ugly looking metal grill flea market boxes.
