The point of the 15/6 is that it has an even frequency response from the lows to the highs. Any effects you put into it will sound fine. The 15/6 has nothing in common with "most 15s".

Hey Dave:

I don't know if it's possible but you could save some serious baffle space if they happened to make a coaxial version of the MF driver. I wonder if that would be wise or not? Since you're already paying to mod it, a coax version might be worth considering.

Just a thought.

The coax eight is not closed back, so using it would require a separate sub-enclosure, greatly increasing the build complexity, and therefore cost. There is no coax six. And Eminence builds all their OEMs with off the shelf parts, so OEMs don't cost more than in-line models. If anything they're usually less. That's why Eminence owns the OEM market.

Well, a quick/rough look is

$50=wood
$140-180 = 3015LF
$130= 18Sound 6"
$35-70= Crossover

Then you've got all the other details to contend with, as well as any construction materials or tools you might need. All that little stuff adds up.

I can say that for my 1-speaker 15/sub I'm right in the $300 range, and that's with having some supplies on hand.

I would never ever try to discourage anyone from building your own cab, it's a really great experience. But not always a cheap one. I think pricing for any Avatar 15/6/1 or the like will be as usual, more than competitive. It will also be different than a fEarful, so take that into account too. :)

I have the woodworking experience, tools and basic hardware needed and I love a good project. It would be mainly the speakers and speaker componets I would have to buy.
Either way I'm goning to have to save up some cash.
Then were gonna have to see what the reviews are when the Avatars are done and how they compare to fEarful.

I think that Dave probably orders in quantity and probably can have them wound in 4ohms, for little guys who might want a couple, they're not going on it. Although I think the 4/8 ohm thing isn't half the deal that most people make it out to be. (I'm firmly in the 8ohm camp anyway).

That makes some sense, but if he's modifying it it seems like a coaxial cbmr six might make some sense. I'm no expert in speaker design though :)

Also, build complexity is not increased much if you use a preformed container for the mid (e.g. doubled butter tubs with PL in between ;), but the Coax 8 is not that good of a MF driver from what I saw in its specs.

Perhaps not with your 15/6, but I have noticed quite a difference with my F1 into a 4 ohm cab as opposed to an 8 ohm cab. For example, my Carvin LS1503 is an 8 ohm, the F1 was cranked pretty good, but with my Neox 212T, not so much, at least as far as sheer volume goes. Might be the the difference in sensitivity between the two, but I have noticed a difference with other 8 ohm cabs also.

also, if you plan on selling the 2 way 15+10, I forsee it being excellent mod-fodder. Some guys like to tinker and it's a great platform for that.

Great ..I think that is what we will do. I have about 50 cabs ...some carpet covered..some black tolex...and we'll build them up like we were originally planning to do ..15/tweeter and 15/10 / tweeter with the 4 ohm delta 15 LF Eminence and put them on the clearance page of the website. They sound pretty good as is but would also make great project cabs for experimenting...THANKS Dave

HI thanks...Eminence will make custom 4 ohm versions for us because the quantities we order are high enough to have that done. We'll have both 4 and 8 ohm 3015LF's

I imagine you'll be getting a lot of requests for your 4-ohm 3015LF driver from the 15/6 crowd. Going to 4-ohms will open up a lot of amp choices with these designs. I've already got an "uber-powerful at 8-ohms" amp, so I'm set, but it could open up opportunities for some.

I don't believe he can resell them, and VERY OFTEN some specs change when you change the ohms of a driver, so it might need some measurement to know how to cross it over optimally :)

In the past, Dave has sold his OEM version of the Deltalite 25XX-II's, I don't see why he wouldn't be able to sell his OEM 3015LF's. Maybe the rules have changed though. I'm not up on any of that.

Absolutely. It'll be interesting to see how the 8-ohm and 4-ohm versions stack up next to each other.
