FWIW, in guitar world, I'm not really aware of any easily-made-modular combos - they all seem to be in boxes.

That's my favourite amp ever (see thumbnail)... sadly it started cutting out a couple years ago which I'm guessing is some type of thermal cut off issue with the pre-amp, but the tech I took it to couldn't identify the problem. I use it as my DI for recording which is less of a problem when it cuts out and now use a little agi 350 live, but the old Genz is still my favourite sound.

A combo is a speaker and amplifier in one housing. Your speaker and head do not make a combo.

I take “combo” to be short for combination purchase in this case.
i.e. burger,fries,and soft drink are sold as a combo meal.

Mine too! Its all I use! @Musical_musings the beauty is that @agedhorse who has already commented in this thread, designed these amps and STILL services them at a very reasonable price! Whatever tech you took it to in the past was not the designer! I strongly encourage you to reach out to Andy, he'll get you back to 100% in no time!

It was designed as a combo, marketed as a combo, sold as a combo, it's a combo. It can ALSO separate, which was a feature that was driven post 911 where fly rigs started becoming popular. A bass player could travel with their amp on a plane and use house cabinets, as well as use it in the saddle as a combo where traveling with the cabinet was possible. It was also a solution for players who traveled via mass transit, they could leave their cabinet at the rehearsal space and take just their amp and bass on the "shuttle" to and from rehearsal. This is common in large cities as well as in Japan and much or Europe.


Sorry, it is a combo. We designed it, we get to classify it as we see fit.

I know it’s an older amp, but well, cared for, and used by an upright bassist only occasionally. Got it for very good price and needed a gig worthy amp.
Was using a borrowed 6.2 shuttle combo before.

I'm really intrigued by your beautiful red bass, with its blank headstock and its unconventional electronics, can you tell us a bit about it?

I guess you have volume+tone knobs, how do the 2 switches work, how do you select the pickups?

I have nice gear, but I’m jealous of your new-to-you combo, it must sound delicious with that bass. I’ve always wanted one of those combos. Super light with lots of power and clean headroom, and expandable with another cab, just the way a combo should be.

Why people have to pick nits instead of just appreciating a gorgeous new amp is beyond me. If the manufacturer calls it a combo (and they did), it’s a combo. If Fender releases a PJ with a precision body and a Jazz width neck, and gives it a Precision logo, it’s a Fender Precision (q.v. Magnificent 7 series bass and several iterations of their Hot Rodded Precisions). And if you wanna call them a PJ instead, hopefully no one will nitpick you for it.

There’s no problem repairing your amp, the only possible complication is if your tech created additional issues that need to be corrected. Message me and I will send you the information on the factory service program.
