New bass amp/speaker concept

great idea, a bass cab out of plastic!!! genius !!! have you ever SEEN a used bass cab? or ever loaded one into a car? Scratches in clear plastic will look so cool. NOT.
I see absolutely no reason to buy your amp/cab. Lights?really? I want people to concentrate on my Fender decal on my headstock,my tort pickguard and my awesome playing, not lights in my amp.
i understand you're trying to design something different, but it needs to be practicle. And it needs to be better than the existing products, not just different.

Ok i think it should come with a little unit that you can place in the spot where you want the cab to set up, and then have an arrow so it knows what direction. Then once you set it down you press a button on this "remote" unit. Once you do that the motor under the amp fires up and the amp then proceeds to drive itself to the remote and park. Maybe it should come equipped with rockets in case it needs to go up impossible stairs, or it could go over a fence instead of 300 feet around it.

The other option i would like is that it does a sine wave sweep of the frequencies after it sets up, and then listens back and determines its own suggested eq for the room.

But seriously, this one is doable and should be done on a plexi cab. Make a spot for an effects send, and also make a spot for an ipad/iphone/ipod touch send. They have some great effects on these digital devices now. Also make some footswitch ins for a bunch of different things... True bypass for each send, true bypass for eq, if it has more than one channel then a switch for those, also a foot pedal for main volume or drive if it has tubes, a footpedal in for each band of eq, that overrides the hand one once it is plugged in.... Heck a footpedal or switch option for every single button, pot, or function on the amp. Also make sure you have a mute switch, and that this also has the footswitch option.

Also make a dock so that you can show off the ipad... There is some visualization apps that will dance to the bass signal, and that would be cool.

Hey,
Im currently designing a concept valve amp/bass speaker for a uni project to take to market. its in early stages of development but will be constructed of plexi glass and lit with colour strips. Im looking for market feedback regarding interest in the product.
The spec shows the sizes and dimensions, the angle on the face to project the sound and some possible options.
The speakers selected were Eminence, Fane, Celestion.
The unit will come with wheels and an extention to pull it (making it portable).
Costing of the products would be - 12" setup, around £600. 15" setup, around £700. 4 x 10" setup, around £1000.
I also attached a picture to show an example of how the design should look.
Hope to incorporate a silent recording feature aswell.

*NOTE* This university project is to design a product that is new or different that is marketable, it will be designed, business plan made, concept built. but it will never go to market. this is a new area for me, hence why i am on here to find out if there is interest in the product and what could be done to make it more appealing to the bassplayers, i have had focus groups with many bands and distributors but m still looking for more information.

no interest but I found the post interesting.

Commercial Users who are owners / employees of musical equipment manufacturers / distributors / retailers may not use the TalkBass Classifieds to advertise items for sale, unless prior permission is granted when one of the following is true:
1. You are a manufacturer of musical equipment, and the item in question is not made by your company or a subsidiary. For example, you work for Fender and are selling a Lakland bass.
2. You are a distributor / retailer of goods, and the item in question is not one your company / division usually handles. For example, you work for Guitar Center and are selling an early 80s Aria bass.

An occasional exception to this may be made for individual users (as long as permission is sought before posting in the classifieds, as stated below). For example, you work for a store that sells Fenders, but wish to sell a used Fender instrument personally owned by yourself, on a one-off basis.

Looks like you didnt even read this yourself. Look under exceptions. Then also bear in mind that this is not a real commercial enterprise. Its a university project! Get off it!

Not for me, I see the same problems already mentioned in the thread; they will likely be heavy compared to conventional cabs and prone to scratches you can't really repair. As to the looks - which is a matter of taste of course - I personally think transparent and lit up is kind of tacky and out of date, but that's just my taste.

If the cab is cheaper, lighter and sounds better than my Ampeg 8x10 I would consider buying it. i don't care how my bass rig looks, just how it sounds. 99% of the people you are playing for don't know the difference of the gear you're playing anyways.

Thanks FretNoMore.

I (mis)read that as a school project that eventually will go into production. From the OP:

"Im currently designing a concept valve amp/bass speaker for a uni project to take to market."

Also, the OP's TB handle is "Caledonian_Enterprises". So you can understand my confusion, I hope.

There's been a few Commercial Users that have been struck from the TB site recently that I had hoped would have stuck around, hence my cautionary post.

Cheers,
FF

[EDIT: Forgot to add the part I missed: "but it will never go to market."]

I admire your innovative approach to designing an alternative style bass amp.

If it works, great, if not then no problem.
Design isn't all about success, it's about thinking outside the square and striving to improve on an existing idea and trying it out, whether destined for success or not!
The world of design is filled with far more prototypes and failures than success stories. It's how we learn and develop future ideas.

Market research is an integral and very important phase of the design process, as I'm sure you know. ;)

You won't find a tougher research resource than TB!
This place is full of .......... nah, let's not go there!

All (no, actually, most) of this feedback is useful for your assignment.

Me?
If:
a) I was looking for a new amp
b) I wanted more visual stage presence
c) Your amp was lightweight, powerful and sounded "good" to me
d) It wasn't too expensive

.....I'd think about buying one from you, if you did eventually market it.

Thanks Greg, it is a concept that is meant to be "different" from what is available in todays market, i think that some people have missed the point that i dont know this field and was looking on ways to improve this concept to meet interests such as covering it with a mesh to prevent scratching, laser engraving, different colours of plexi, portable with huge sound etc. but i appreciate all the response
