New bass build!

Wow, didn't realize it could do that. I'm not a chat GPT user. I use Claude heavily for my work though. I'll have to see what I can do with images.

Two color burst looks really good on that shape. What is your idea for final finish? Matte? Glossy? Smooth? Grain texture showing through?

For ash like this it takes a lot of grain filler to get a totally smooth finish, matte or glossy. For the burst I'd look at filling grain with a clear product then sand back till its only in the pores and the rest will take stain. With the contours and steps in the body, polishing out a gloss finish will be tricky, lots of corners to hit.

Stain without grain fill, then an oil dinish on top would be an easier route, though in the pic gloss really looks nice...

I’m thinking I’ll probably do grain structure showing.. I’m almost too much of a perfectionist when it comes to me finishing instruments, so I tend to let other people do it for me.. MJT has finished a couple of bodies for me in the past that I’ve been relatively happy with so I will probably go that route

Finally back at it.. made a pick guard tonight.. still thinking about knob layout maybe curve them and follow the outside line?
I started out just tracing my paper template and then using a hand router and then cleaned up the edges with a rotary sander..

it wasn’t perfect but close enough.. then I cleaned it up and made the bevel with a file and sanding block

then made a template for the holes then drilled and countersunk them and cleaned everything up

now to figure out control layout.. it’s just going to be a basic volume and tone with the output.. but I’m using three knobs in the mock up so I can place everything..

that’s it for tonight.. hopefully more tomorrow

Digging the Jaggenbacker-60 so far… really cool idea, and it’s looking awesome ! Like a Jaguar got into a hot tub with a T-60 and a Rickenbacker, and unspeakable things happened….. but the result was a beautiful baby bass !

Let’s just hope it doesn’t turn out like Rosemary’s Baby ! 😂😂👹👹😂😂

Ok I finally got around to going to the hardware store and getting some screws I needed to get the neck mounted.. so I put it together with some spare strings to make sure it would tune and intonate properly before I shipped it for paint.. and honestly just wanted to hear it!

It sounds great! And plays great! Can’t lie I want to a local shop a couple weeks ago and played all the p basses they had and just wasn’t in love with the fat neck 😬 but the one on this bass has a really thin profile and actually feels great! I can’t wait to get this thing painted and back together
