I put my new strings on, no problemo. Took me 15 minutes, I'm guessing. There was a significant amount of string to wrap on the B & G posts, but it all went around, and it always feels incredible to have a clean set of roundwounds on. These were the 5SL strings, BTW.

The D'Addario regular length will NOT fit on these (I have 2 L2500s...). The Super Longs do, and are the stock strings. Believe it or not, they are not carried locally in Albuquerque at ANY music store. I've asked, and none will do it.

In fact, no one in Albuquerque carries strings long enough for the L2500 through the body, or most 35" basses - except DR (not well-discounted). It's pretty ridiculous. They won't carry 5-string sets of Dunlops, which aren't even my favorite strings on the G&L, but at least fit.

I currently have a set of Carvin Nickel (Labella) on there. They sound pretty good, but different from my norm, and I don't know how long they'll last.

I could never get decent intonation on the B string of mine while stringing through the body unless I used tapered strings (which always come in extra long lengths anyway). Without the taper, the dramatic bend of the thick B string at the bridge saddle was a little too extreme and awkward (once the saddle was moved back for proper intonation), resulting in a "beating" tone higher up on the neck that drove me crazy! I personally never found a non-tapered set of strings that didn't have this problem when strung through the body on my old L2500.

And you will love the extra tones that the single coil mod adds! I have seperate coil switches for both pickups on mine, and one of them is almost always in single coil.

Lowfreq: I ordered through Musician's Friend, have you tried going that way? They have a number of payment options, even Paypal, and free (standard) shipping is not so bad either.

I usually buy my strings online, too. Its quite a bit cheaper that way. I usually pick up twin packs of the five string D'Addario XLs for $30 or so.

I'm shocked that G&L's method for allowing strings-through-body was to use the holes designed originally for bridge-mounting screws! Never knew that, thanks for the tip for future reference. PS, my SB-2s kick @ss!
