That purple looks really cool.
I recall a 360 (guitar) that Paul W. refinished in purple burst. Very nice.
I suspect that at least some other Trans Blues will fade into a purple hue, perhaps only the ones with the older yellowing clearcoat (the new stuff isn't supposed to yellow, or at least not as much).

And, for the record, my previous response about the 4004 circuit was just passing on what I remember reading re: the circuit, not a defense for Ric. And I'm in no way a fan boy, or else I'd still own all 7 Ric basses that I have had, ( and both Ric guitars), instead of hanging on to only my Cheyenne, (which I do love, stock), but play my Dlx P much more. No Kool-aide here.
I haven't heard of any Blueburst Rics turning green, but I have seen a few Blueboy (light baby blue color) Rics starting to turn mint green.
Nobody's really sure how or why my bass turned purple.
I believe my bass was built after Ric started doing the new UV-cured finishes, and it is (imho) much too evenly faded/colored to simply be a case of sun fading. The color supposedly faded into purple within a few weeks, & has stayed the same since then, and this seems unlikely to me - why didn't it continue to fade like most things left in the sun tend to do? My colleague Cassius believes it may be the result of a chemical reaction from something that came in contact with the bass, and I'm starting to give his theory more weight.
I don't suppose I'll ever know what really happened, but this much is sure - I got a beautiful, one of a kind bass for a great price.

I am pretty sure this is not fading, folks. This is a recent bass with a finish clear coat that would not have faded. It has probably looked like this since it left the factory.
What I put forth earlier was based on what a salesman at Wildwood told me, basically that some reddish element (impurity) in the clear coat from that batch (whether by design or not) caused this to happen and RIC decided to ship the bass this way.

Sometimes Ric will do a one off or a limited run of special colors ... but they usually sell them on ebay at a higher price.

No need to apologize ... Perhaps I was too aggressive with my fan boy comments ...
The toggle - volume - tone circuit is clear and loud ... but I always want to blend the pickups ... hence my preference for a 2 volume wiring.
You can also wire a bass with just a volume control ... that will be clear and loud ... but most of us prefer more tone control.
As dark sounding as the Ciis are, I could live with just 2 volume knobs, but a stacked knob 2 vol/2 tone/1 pu selector setup would be ideal. Also, it would be cool to have coil tapping for the humbuckers.
If you have the parts you want to use whenever we get together, I will be happy to wire them up for you and/or show you how to do it yourself, whether you want stacked V/T+V/T or V+V, or VVT.
Unfortunately, my knowledge of electronics wouldn't even fill a Dixie cup. Set-ups I can do well, but you wouldn't want to see me with a soldering iron in my hand. When we do the shielding job on my 4003, we'll put a parts list together for the Cii mod, & I'll get 'em ordered up.
