Alright, I had some previous trouble with a Schecter Stargazer and I came on these boards and talked junk on it, so I thought I'd even things out with my praises of my new Diamond P.
I got it last week and waited 'til I had 2 gigs and some practice time with it.
The Good:
-It looks cool.
-It has the extra fret that a P-bass doesn't. So that high E on the G is there.
-It has just an incredible snappy tone. I would say it cuts as well as a Musicman, but it isn't identical.
-I was able to get a great setup. The hardware is great quality. You can string it top or through the body. I'm also trying the DR DDTs with it. It is playing up and down the neck in tune with low action and no buzzing.
The Bad/or things to consider:
-This bass is an absolute brick! I'm a young buck, but playing 2 nights of 3 hour gigs under lights, the bass was catching up with me.
-A much flatter radius than a Fender.
-Super HOT passive pickups. I've been running it through the active input on my Hartke setup and it's still as loud as my other basses. I'll lower the pickups tomorrow when I have some time.
The price was nice too. AMS had it as a Scratch and Dent for $349. It showed up with all the tags/allen keys and plastic on the pickguard. The only thing I could find was some dirt on the back of the neck and a smudge on the nut that cleaned up with some sandpaper and guitar polish. Tone: It does bright and snappy best, it can do a fat P-bass sound, but it's not as good as a real P.
Hey, would this bass exist without any pictures? Most certainly not! Here's the Schecter, my Hartke Hydrive setup, a lucky skull decal and of course the Gene mask for a KISS encore
