A New Bass Day... NBD, but not for me!
My very best Bluegrass Buddy asked me to go Bass shopping with him, for his son.
Well...DUH!
His son, James, has been borrowing my sweet $80 pawn shop Ibanez for several months, now. We bounced twixt two pawn shops...found a rock solid, pearl white Squire P-Bass for $149! A beautiful blue Ibanez SG1600 for $129! (DAMN! Does it get mo better than this?) and then traveled across town to a tiny music store on the Cleveland Highway where we found another SG1600 for the same money...but Tim just liked the sound of this one better. Guy sold him a hard-shell case for $30...I thought that was more than he had to pay.
He was as happy as a pig in shite!
I put a boiled set of my most recent Blue Steels on it...a bit of contact cleaner...three coats of Murphy's Oil Soap,,, (the babe turned out to be as purple as it was blue!)...the tuner that my musical compatriot (The Rev. Garrison Smith) gave me as a Christmas present back in 1994...(a 17 year old isn't supposed to have the very finest of gear...some day he is supposed to give it to another Kid)...and a strap that a local leatherworker made for us...in the case
James...as he should be...is a VERY happy young man, who is on the way over here on 1/1 for the first lesson I have to give him!
Happy New Year!
