a maple neck with white blocks is an acquired taste. its not for everyone. I think you would be justified to be bothered by it, return it/exchange it. But the question still remains....do you like the saving you got or do you dislike the look more? Only you can decide

Do you have a picture of the listing? I've never seen a DJ-4 / DJ-5 with dots. My guess is they used the wrong photos in the original listing. Great bass, great price, it's up to you whether you can live with blocks. Most would consider it an upgrade, but it's your bass, not theirs.
I understand that on some level you feel cheated or taken; but that is an absolutely beautiful instrument that is nicer that some players will see in a lifetime. A real dream bass.
I don't get too caught up in cosmetics, but yeah that would bother me. I generally like pearl inlay, but on that finish, it looks really wimpy. I think what bugs me the more is the color of the neck wood. If it was the same as the bass, it may not look as bad. Some sort of colored (red or green etc) pearloid pick guard might tie things together better.
The fact that it plays great would be a tripping point for me. Do I risk getting a sub par player for a little cosmetic blip? The 40% discount you got may be worth living with it. It's not something you can really see while playing, so the only time it is really a concern is in pictures or when you're admiring your queen from afar. The fact that you're asking indicates that it doesn't bother you so much that you hate it.
I'm not familiar with your vendor, so I have no idea how responsive they will be to working with you over such a deeply discounted item. But, I would probably try to work with the vendor a little here. To me - so long as return windows remain open, I'd even see if I could by another bass (or even the right neck) for the same price with the proper neck and then return the one you don't want. That way, you don't really risk losing a great player. Of course this is less viable if you don't have and extra 1000 that you can float about for a few weeks.

Man, that is NICE, I'd keep it. Even at risk of a warranty issue down the line as someone noted above — the risk of eating the cost of a single replacement part is not insignificant but it is unlikely.

Perhaps they did a small special run of the DJ5 with natural and pearl blocks? I did a quick search and found this from a dealer in Korea - [2021 Summer Sale(~8/31까지)] Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones Signature DJ-5 Natural w/Maple FB(2019년산/신품)
Assuming that is in fact a Lakland neck whether intended for that bass or some model that fits (which I assume it would be, but couldn't be "sure" about it), I would be stoked and inclined to keep it. I would likely investigate by contacting the seller and Lakland just for some verification. It looks really good with the pearl blocks to me. I see the mismatch in wood color that was mentioned, but we are talking Ash/Maple (diff. woods) anyhow. I don't know if/where you would find another like it...

This has been the main reason why I won't buy basses from Bax shop; they almost always use stock factory pictures which is kinda useless to me, especially when ordering an instrument with visible wood grain and stuff like that. Buying amps and pedals is fine, used their shop regularly for that.
Also, and this is not to bash Bax in any way but it is true: the heavily discounted basses are typically b-stocks or blemished instruments. Nothing wrong with that, they can be fine instruments, and you can get some decent deals there; but it's something to keep in mind.

While I'm normally ok with small cosmetic flaws, this would bother me greatly. If I'd ordered a bass with black inlays, it would be because I wanted a bass with black inlays.
I did a search and didn't see one in "natural" without black blocks.
It's nice though I like black blocks with natural finish and black PG.
If it were mine I would replace the PG with a white or white pearl I think it'll look classy that way.

The bass in the ad pic was probably returned 3 times because it's a dud. They discounted the hell out of it to get rid of it. Some knucklehead sent you the wrong bass that is a great bass (as you have found). Leave sleeping dogs lie.
That's my theory anyways. If it is a great bass keep it. FWIW I don't like pearl blocks but I would keep it.

I think this is a fairly likely scenario. Other Skyline models with pearloid inlays have matching headstocks, so a neck swap looks unlikely. @dnp41, have you contacted Lakland to inquire further?
