New bass or new pickguard?

I did 5 gigs with a guitar player that didn't even notice I played a 5 string. The drummer and KB might notice and the lead singer won't know the difference between a guitar and a bass. The guitar player won't notice and wouldn't care anyway. (just kidding)

I say go with the advice of talking up the tone. Placebo effect is they will agree it sounds better.

I am going to take it to rehearsals on Thursday in a new(old) case I’ve just bought and ask the band if they like it more or less or the same or carrots. Will they take the bite?

Funny enough, tonal changes have always been something bandmates picked up on. Change of strings, a preamp pedal, and pickup swap all got noticed. All were favorable comments and the preamp was noticed by a drummer!

I had the same issue - white on white - changed it for a tort and it absolutely looks like a new bass!! Good move!!
