New Bass Store in Sydney!

Woo Hoo!! :hyper:

Finally Sydney gets the bass store it deserves..... and they're looking staff. Allow me to quote from the Green Square Music newsletter:-

"BASS PEOPLE IS COMING!!

We are very excited to announce the impending opening of our new bass shop!

The shop will be called Bass People.

Bass People will be located at 31 Parramatta Road, Annandale. (This is the site formerly occupied by The Bass Player. It is presently undergoing a complete refurbishment.)

Bass People will carry the leading brands in quality basses and amplification. Prices will start at around $1,000 for basses. There will be more information about these lines in the next newsletter.

Bass People will also be the exclusive Australian retail outlet for a number of brands imported by Green Square Music. At last our customers will have a nice venue to go and see the full range of Acme, Accugroove and Schroeder loudspeakers. Not to mention Thunderfunk amplifiers and Ritter and Alembic basses.

And there are two awesome new brands joining the Green Square Music roster. Both are household names in the bass community. Initially Bass People will be the exclusive retail outlet. More information in the next newsletter.

We have three goals in launching Bass People:

To serve our customers better.
To represent our suppliers better.
To create a world class bass shop in Sydney and Australia.

If you:
• play bass;
• communicate well;

• want to learn new skills
we would like to talk to you.

Conditions include:
• excellent salary;
• profit share;

Prices will start at around $1,000 for basses.

so you guys wont be stocking any type of beginer or intermediate (on a budget obviously) gear?

and will you be stocking only premium gear and nothing accesable to non-professional bassist types (im not talking about behringer, but more "average joe" kind of amps like peavey / warwick ect)

either way i'l definately be checking it out, best of luck to you and im sure you will have a whoooole lot of applications!

We aim to have a good range of "meat and potatoes" basses and amps - in addition to the more way out stuff - but space is a big constraint so we have to draw the line somewhere.

Thanks for the good wishes.

I'm no expert, but to me it seems like the "standard" music shops of Sydney have this segment of bass equipment well and truly covered already. What we need is a store that is a little (or a lot) more hardcore for bass, and thankfully that's what we're gonna get!!

Congratulations on the new store David and all the best for the future. I'll definitely go there first when I need new gear and to check out the new lines as they arrive!

And don't forget there will also be good quality 2nd hand gear in the shop being sold on consignment, that's always a way of getting something more up-market for a reduced price! The big difference between instruments at Bass People and those up the road will be that these ones will be setup properly and playing at their best, not just thrown on the wall, straight out of the box. :p

Cheers,

EG

Good luck David! I've never purchased anything from you, but you've always been very helpful via email and I have to say that the last time I got to Sydney I did come into Green Square and poke around. Wonderful stuff.

So is GreenSquare going to stock non-bass inventory then?

Bass People will stock bass related products - like bass effects, strings, cables, bass tab/bass cleff sheet music, etc. But the focus will be bass.

Green Square Music will carry on as a wholesaler - and will develop the very short scale six string piccolo bass (aka guitar) side of its business.

You should do some of your podcasts live from the store as a bit of a marketing thing. That would be cool and you could have a live audience!

Good idea.

Many of the awesome players that have co-hosted Basscast shows have offered their assistance. And of course suppliers are keen. So we do hope to run regular clinics - focusing on:
* particular product lines;
* aspects of playing; or
* music industry issues.

So we'll look at the feasibility of recording them for Basscast.

Firstly, thank you for all the kind words. We will do our absolute best to justify your faith.

Just an update to let you know what's been happening...

When we stripped the old shop we discovered rising damp and rainwater leaks. Consequently we lost a few weeks in our schedule and are now looking at an early December opening.

Better news on the personnel front - we have been fortunate enough to assemble an awesome management team. All bass players (of course) with good retail experience and great service ethos.

Thanks for everyone who expressed interest in positions - we'll be in touch with you over the next few weeks to arrange interviews.
