New Bass

Hey guys/gals,

I'm new to this site but wanted your input, ive got a lovely bass rig, markbass suits me down to the ground! but i have a musicman stingray that is currently for sale and i want a versatile bass that is a work horse and never let me down while at the same time sounds great and obv im looking at a price range of around £800 (uk) any suggestions?????? Im thinking a fender but what one? i mean i know that some years are better than others for fender basses and there seems to be so much choice that i don't know what would be best!! I play in a party band playing everything from al green to lady ga ga - im not stuck on the idea of a fender would consider anything, any help would be appreciated!! cheers people!

I love the Stingray.... but if you want something else and think Fender... I'd vote for a G&L L2000.
Very fendery, but a lot more than that. Does a reasonable Pbass, and Jazz bridge... but it is its own animal really.
The controls seem a bit confusing at first, but they soon make sense.
Either a Tribute model or a US one would be a good one, and both within your budget.

I voted for a standard Jazz Bass, although there are countless possibilities. Personally, I find the Jazz Bass to be very versatile bass (sonically) and it can really churn out a great 'springy/funky' sound - perfect for the kind of music that you mentioned in your OP .
