Hey guys/gals,

I'm new to this site but wanted your input, ive got a lovely bass rig, markbass suits me down to the ground! but i have a musicman stingray that is currently for sale and i want a versatile bass that is a work horse and never let me down while at the same time sounds great and obv im looking at a price range of around £800 (uk) any suggestions?????? :bassist: Im thinking a fender but what one? i mean i know that some years are better than others for fender basses and there seems to be so much choice that i don't know what would be best!! I play in a party band playing everything from al green to lady ga ga - im not stuck on the idea of a fender would consider anything, any help would be appreciated!! cheers people!

You can't go wrong with a new American Fender. Jazz or P bass. I have one of each and I go back and forth as to witch I like better. I had a Stingray as well but sold it. In my opinion i think the Fender Jazz my be a bit more versatile.

As an owner of a MM Stingray 4HH, MIA P and MIA Deluxe J, I would go with an MIA Standard J or Deluxe.

The MM is great, but even with two pickups it's more variations on a theme tonally.

The P is a great workhorse and has been for many moons, but could be limiting. You could however, upgrade the electronics with a John East P-retro to add a bit of tonal diversity to the P.

If you do go for a J, make sure you shield the heck out of it.

If you must change and want a workhorse I'd say get a P, my one works really well with my MarkBass rig. However, in reality I'd stick with the 'Ray as I think it's a bit more versatile than the P but still retains that great fundamental (I always think of the 'Ray as Leo's updated version of the P). Of course you could have the best of both worlds and get a P and keep the 'Ray too, it's what I've done :)

Stick with the stingray man. I would never sell a terrific sounding bass just because of it's color, unless it's pink, haha. Also, the stingray is definitely a workhorse. Maybe you could possibly trade it for another stingray
if you really don't like the color.

Personally I vote for G&L L-2500.

Switching from a Stingray to a Fender will be good, however, if you are having trouble with your bass cutting through the mix too much.

Weird.
What kind of eq do you have???
I can only imagine you have one or more guitarists with way too much bottom interfering with your sound.
