I agree...I like Laklands for their own unique qualities, but a Fender is a Fender. For me, I have a Fender for a Fender. And I have a Dingwall, for its unique B-string. And some point I would like to have a Lakland that is a Lakland.

pretty sure Lakland already has plenty of Lakland exclusive designs... the 44-94 and 55-94 were their bread and butter for years, and they still make them in both US and skyline versions. then there's the Hollowbody, which is its own thing entirely. and can't forget the Decade... with a unique body shape, unique pickups, and completely different pickup spacing than any fender offerings. they used to offer a jerry scheff model with lipstick pickups too, but I think its been discontinued.
I don't own or plan to buy any Lakland stuff for a while, but I think their entire product line is solid as hell, and a LOT more diverse than most brands out there. they have original designs galore, and have fresh takes on some classic designs (you do know you can get chi-sonics in both the precision and jazz models instead of the standard fender-style pups, right?). its fine if its not your thing, but i don't see any reason to complain about a wide-ranging product line.
