Yeah, it’s super useful live. I bought it off this app you only can buy in Japan. It’s like having another pedalboard on your pedalboard.

Haha, yeah. I used a looper to put together an arrangement of “Be Thou My Vision”. Used both OC-5 and Ricochet for the improv solos. My church is pretty open to have a little variation. I also did one for “All Creatures of our God and King” by stealing Rich Brown’s accompaniment in his version of “Twice”. It actually works! I’ve posted that on YouTube as well.

Honestly, I didn't notice any volume drop with the OC-2 Octaver. The OC-2 at full volume was a bit louder than the OC-5 at 12 o'clock. I mentioned in my conclusion section that all the knobs on the OC-5 were at 12 o'clock so could definitely put out more juice.

I just got my OC-5 in yesterday, and fired it up this morning. It's on my board - my TC sub 'n up is now mothballed. One of the churches I play at, the worship leader likes a bit of sub stuff here and there, so this is an occasional thing for me. Although the OC-5 will do more than one thing, the one thing I need it to do - just add some sub octave, it does very well.

The OC-5 is the first octaver I've tried that just works - you don't have to play "special", you just do your thing, and it does what it's supposed to. The TC sub'n up was close, the OC-5 is just...there. Mine is set in poly mode, with the direct level at noon, and the -1 octave level at 9 O'Clock (the other two knobs are fully ccw) - that's a nice mix with plenty of sub stuff going on.

The only thing I need to pay attention to is not to wander down on the B string while it's on - it'll happily track all the way down, and you don't quite want that. I'll have to alert the FOH guy that he NEEDS a high pass - just in case.

Fair question and one I've been asking myself too! From what I've gathered looking at them both as possible pedals to buy:

The 3Leaf Octabvre Mk3 does an excellent OC2 impression with better tracking than the OC2 and without the volume loss on the solo Oct1 down which the OC2 suffered from. Lovely form factor. Costs $269.

The Boss OC-5 also does an excellent OC2 impression with better tracking than the OC2 and without the volume loss on the solo Oct1 down which the OC2 suffered from. Probably not quite such a pretty box, but will have Boss's legendary build quality. Adds octave up. Costs $130.

Before the Boss OC-5 came out, I would have seriously considered the 3Leaf. But would I now pay twice as much for a prettier box that doesn't provide octave up? No way!

In fact the more likely alternative for me would be the TC Sub'n'Up Mini which can deliver a lot provided you're prepared to roll up your sleeves up with its TonePrint editor. It takes up little PB real estate and comes in at around $90. Tempting.

The “weird filter” thing on the solo OCT up is the reason I’m not getting this one.
Huge boss fan, was hopping it could replace my micro POG since it’s has a smaller footprint.

Guess I’m keeping the POG for the octave up soloed thing.

Still have my OC2 for the classic tone.
