I find the bass interesting but the design could be improved (MY opinion!). To me, it would be more visually attractive if:

- the control plate were parallel to the strings. Maybe an even better solution would be to get rid of the control plate, move the jack to the side, and have the knobs lined perfectly parallel to the strings

- the headstock would be better. This looks like a cheap solution. And the curves of the headstock don't go well with the rectangular and pointy body. A square or pointy headstock would be much better.

To me, this Paddlebass looks like Steinberger and Pablo Picasso got together to build a cricket bat with strings. The electronic configuration seems very practical, though. Wonder how it actually feels and plays. Looks like it could have a balance issue, but that may just be the odd shape throwing me off...

You should be able to handle critics and not say "I don't care, say what you want but I won't change anyway". If you can't deal with people not liking your design, don't build a bass.

Question on the electronics: are the two J's just series-parallel? Or can they coil tap like a MM humbucker to play as a single coil?

It's a V-V-T configuration with a series/parallel-switch. So just switching to parallel and putting one volume down gives the same effect as a coil tap I suppose.

Early 2009 I posted some pics of it on a forum and got a lot of positive feedback from bassplayers. This stimulated me to make a completely new design.

Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't positive feedback encourage you to follow the original design rather than create a new one?
