Thanks 2cool! I was always leaning toward "A" but I can never make up mind on some things. I may still make the other pick guard as well and try it out. But I will wait till the end for that. Thanks again.

You could always make them both out of dummy materials when the bass is done to see which takes your fancy (if either - you may want to tweak A or B or come up with C, D....).

Well I was able to put my first roll on the edges yesterday. I am going to do a double pass over the edges with the 1/2" round over bit. I saw a few areas that were wavy on the sides of the body, after I flush trimmed it with the template. So I wanted to take as much wood off the body to make it easier to clean up the sides. I took a file and shaped up the sides. Now I am going to sand the sides back down smooth and run the router back over it, to get rid of the wavy sides and wavy rolled areas on the edge. Check out the pictures. Starting to come together and look like a bass. After the above is done I will start on shaping the belly cut out and forearm round over. Until next time.

Just a quick up date. Got the sides all smoothed up and re-rounded the edges with the 1/2" round over bit. Now this thing is so smooth and no waves along the sides. Now to start on gettig the neck pocket and pick up routs done along with belly and forearm transisions done. In the pictures I gave a shot of the rear edge of the body to show how the 50/50 body looks (I like it). The other picture shows a side angle and you can see how well the 50/50 body ges together, in terms of not sticking out like crazy. Until next time.

Quick update to the build. Got the MM pick-up route complete and the neck pick-up as well. You will see the neck pick-up route is just a big opening. I did this so I can test other pick-ups in this bass. This is going to be my bass and it will have a pick guard to cover everything. I am wanting to try all pick-up types and this was the best way I could see to do it. I also got the neck pocket routed and the forearm roundover done as well. Only thing left is the belly cutout and the control cavity. I need to do a layout for the control cavity before I start routing. It is getting close now.

Well I know it has been a while since I have posted any work on this bass but I have made some progress since the last post. Well for this update I have got the control cavity routed along with the p-guard cut. I have also added the polyester finish/grainfiller to it. It still need a couple of coats before it is ready to be final sanded to a satin finish. This will also be a goodfinish in the event I want to add a color to it later, I can just scuff and spray. I am not 100% sold on my pick guard design yet but will wait till the guitar is complete before changing it. I will just use double sided tape to hold it in place until I know forsure that it is a keeper. Well I hope you like it and I hope to have the finish completed by the end of the week (fingers crossed). Until next time.

Here are a couple of other photos just showing mockup of the bass.

Also the blobs on the pick gaurd are the P-Bass pup. The lighting was not good so the pup covers do not show up to good.

What do you think about the pick guard? To me it is looking to thin on the bass side of the neck. Let me know what you all think.

Well I put the bass together last night to make sure everything is lining up and correct and Wow this bass just rocks and the tone just jumps out of it. I still need to sand and buff the finish. Shield the control cavity and rout the P bass pup into the Pick Guard and assimble. I have a clip of it but I cannot get Jamup to upload the clip to SoundCloud. Once I do I will upload a clip of the bass. I took the M style pup wires and ran them strait to the guitar cable to test it. See pics.
