Next for the neck is truss rod installation and glueing the fingerboard onto the neck.

The neck is completely finished.

At this time I figured there was no use continuing in this direction if the basic concept is faulty from a tone standpoint.

Therefore, I decided to make a mock-up bridge (which will also be the template for future bridges of this type). I then installed the pickup and saddle, put a string on it, snapped in a battery, plugged it in, and gave it a pling . . .

Everyone in my household had huge smiles at that point. Up until now I thought, eh, maybe/maybe not. But wow, it's a keeper big time.

So, at this stage probably a month to finish. I'll put up sound files at that point.

so is the neck going to be a bolt on, that you cant take off? or are the blots going to extend through the back later.

This is the mock up for fitting purposes. As I write this, the glue is setting on the body back and the neck will eventually be set with 7 screws counter-sunk with collars. These 3 existing screw holes will be used . . .

Today: made the real bridge, did some work on the f-holes, and glued the back on.

Now ready for more sealing and sanding. This bass will be a "natural" oil finish. The jury is still out on some body contouring and trim stuff. The body is thicker than it really needs to be, so I may take it to a panel sander and thin it a little.

The back is on; mapping out the control cavity cover . . .

The body is now about 3/16" too thick. It will go to the thickness sander courtesy of Duane Noble Guitars and I will sand it to a final thickness of 1 1/2". If needed, I may need to make a new bridge to compensate for the loss of thickness in relation to the neck pocket. Or, I could deepen the neck pocket as needed. Either/or . . .
