New Cab Day: Traynor TC115 Neo

I picked this up used as backup, grab and go cab

I wanted to something inexpensive, light, powerful and bulletproof that I can leave places and not worry about

I have a few jams lined up with other musicians/bands while my main band is on hiatus and my gear is locked in my singers basement while he is on vacation

So the time for was perfect to grab this and put it through it's paces

First up was last night, LOUD jam with 4pc hard rock band. Earplugs in!

The cab performed really well.
Had no trouble sitting nicely in the mix and punching through when needed
Bass was deep and full and the cab projected really well

It seemed like a good match with the Peavey MiniMax too
All knobs at Noon sounded great
The amp didn't need to be past 12 o'clock on the master or Gain
I've played before with these guys with this amp and I've had to have the Master up at 3 o'clock - So definitely impressed

Next up is a jam/audition later today with an 8pc band - horns/keyboards/2 guitars - playing everything from Chicago to straight up disco

Will keep this thread going for a little while I explore this cab

Congrats on the great cab. Love my TC115Neo. Solid, potent, versatile, lightweight cab. Currently serving duty as a keyboard and guitar amp. My keyboard player just absolutely loves the setup. It performs well with guitar too. Haven't been gigging due to an injury, but mine served me well on the 10 or so gigs I did.

So the jam with the 8pc band was a bit of a bust
1/2 the people had never played together before and didn't really know the songs
The room was small, narrow/long and very poorly setup for 8 people, so really not the best to judge the cabinet

It did punch through when it needed to but didn't really sit in the mix well.

It does have some great clarity and "openess' but I have also noticed a slight boomy quality on some low hits

So I decided to open it up and take a look:

Very well constructed. 4 long triangle ports that run 3/4 the depth of the cabinet

While I was hoping to find some indication of the quality of the driver
I found a nondescript, US made Eminence.
In the past I have found Delta branded Eminence in Traynor bass cabinets
The speaker is attached to the baffle with 4 machine screws into threaded inserts and 4 wood screws

Lo and behold, the cabinet was empty
No insulation/dampening anywhere
I assume they felt it sounded the better this way

I may experiment here depending on how it performs after a few more full band practices

Based on the specs, I'm guessing it's a Kappalite.

If you go through with it. Curious to hear how some insulation helps.The Orange OBC115 was the same way. I threw in some foam but didn't notice any difference.

It's really well built and lightweight at 37lbs. Stack two and it's huge sounding!

likely an Eminence variant built for Traynor. Most of my other cabs have Deltalite 12's so I don't have any audio reference beyond my (very questionable) memory.

I agree though, whatever it sounds great. For bass, keys and guitar.

The Traynor 115 neo cab I ordered arrived at my local Long and McQuade today.. I tried it out. It sounds great , there was a WD800 and a passive Fender jazz there so it was hooked up to some of my home gear.Nice sounding and punchy so it came home today. This is a cab that's slightly bigger than a Mesa Subway 115 (and heavier by only a few pounds). Not the same quality of driver or build as my Subway 15 ... But it's really damn close for the price . Traynor is getting better all the time.
