New Cab day.

This one's a doozy.
I had been looking for a 1x15 cab, and just before I was going to pull the trigger on a Warwick gnome 1x15 4ohm (forgot it's exact name) I stumbled on this one.
The "Blackstar Unity Pro Bass 250ACT 250W 1x15" active bass cab.
Now I had previously looked into hooking up my pedalboard to a active speaker but when asking around was met with people who either hate it or love it and seeing I couldn't try it I passed on it.

Now believe it or not but this thing was misspriced, and was reduced by 44% (woopsie)
So I promptly added my 7.5% discount code and bought it.
To the stores credit they actually shipped it ❤️

And now it's here and I love it.
No tweeter, but tbh I didn't want one seeing I would mostly use it for motown etc. And it sounds lovely!
Nice warm and full tone when hooked up to my pedalboard that uses a two notes revolt bass preamp and a valeton gp5 and a boss comp.
And it's loud, I've only tried it as an active cab and it really is able to annoy neighbour's with just a tiny bit of volume.
But it's fine my neighbours are the type of folk to play incredibly loud music all day and then try to yell over it to their screaming kids outside 😅
So for the first time since I've started playing I'm going to enjoy big fat thumping bass at my own home without feeling remotely guilty ❤️

If I have to say anything bad(?) about it is it really needs to be lifted from the floor. It seems to become one with my home and rattle it like a tambourine.

It's funny because many bassists are looking for powered cabs for their pedalboard/preamp/modeler, and this one is never mentioned, but I'm sure it sounds great and it's a bargain.

I would much prefer this to a PA speaker, personally - because it looks better and it's designed for bass.

I only find it a little bit on the heavy side (19.5 kg for a 1x12 is a bit heavy for my taste)

I haven't tried the 1x12 personally but the 1x15 is 22kg I believe and it really is just like playing through an Amp tbh.
And you can still use it as a passive cab at 250w 4ohm.👍

Edit : I do think it would get more traction with a controllable tweeter.

Glad you got a deal! I personally like cabs with a 15" too. That's nice that it can be used as a passive cab. At only 43 pounds, I consider it lightweight for a 15. For the digital modeling crowd, a large active pa speaker makes sense due to being designed to reproduce music, provided it has good low frequency response.

I had Roland D-Bass 1X15 Active Powered Cab used with Taurus preamp pedal that served me well for 8 years

Bought in 2006 had 250 watts for woofer and 80 for tweeter

Was Class D amp and Neo Speaker at 55lbs which was light back then

Active part was DSP that matched Amp to Speaker

Had pass thru to add more of them and could become Sub with switch
and Electronic crossover

I now have Mesa Subway 1X15 at 37.9lbs being 71 happy about that🙂
