New Dilemma

I have to agree with the majority. They made the exact same call Blue was going to make, just from the other direction.

And the tone of the email from them was about as polite and professional as it could be. I dont think they could've handled it any better than they did. They found a guy they felt was a better fit for them and thats ultimately the issue-finding the "right" parts for the job.

Its not like it was a "dream gig" for you. It was a gig you realized after-the-fact that you didnt want either.

It turned out the best for everyone involved-they got a guy they feel is a better fit and you got let out of deal YOU were about to renege on yourself.
Me, I'd be HAPPY I was let off the hook like that. I'd take it as a sign from above that things were not meant to be with that band. And I wouldnt resort to name calling-there's just no reason to do that.

renege OMG, did you guys see how I spelled that word.

I'm a DK.

i know I am complaining about nothing, you should be use to it.

There really is no point here.I just wish i would have been the one that bailed first.

And on the other side once you make an offer , you don't change your mind.

Sorry Sue , I am cancelling our date because Mary called me and she's hotter than you.

Agreed.

"Sorry, guys, I know I agreed to be your bass player, but I've decided I really don't like your music. "

My response,

No Problem,

If it doesn't work out give me a call.

Just right, leaves the door open for either future work with these guys, and/or subsequent positive references which could lead who-knows-where.

re: spling. I new wotchew ment, doent swettit. Just 'cause some words look/sound a bit like other words, doesn't mean they're in any way connected. Context is everything.

Blue -
you strike me as the type that may let your feelings show in your playing. That's not necessarily bad; it works great when you are playing stuff you love. But maybe after 6 hours of stuff that you decided you didn't enjoy, the band, like you, decided it wasn't a good fit. Why is it unprofessional to decide you may not like something after a dose of experiencing it? It seems you did.

This.. Guessing how vocal you get here, I'm sure the guys can pick up on your mannerisms and general attitude at rehearsal.. Also did you come in knowing a decent amount of the material and playing it with feeling? Did you maybe make a comment or two expressing displeasure with a song?

I've had this same thing happen to me (except I wasn't planning on quitting) two or three times in my career. It's the old "I know we just hired you, but our old bass player just showed up and he already knows our show" routine. If you keep a positive attitude with the groups that do it, you're only going to benefit in the long run.

I was playing evil ways 40 years ago, didn't like it then, don't like it now.

Like it or not Blue, that songs ROCKS.. First it's the Commodores, now you're doggin' Santana? Seems like we hear alot about what you don't like around here. Blue, word of advice.. Attitude is one of the first things people judge on a new/potential band-mate.. Those with a chip on their shoulder and/or with negative outlook usually get shown the door..

I new the 3 covers cold, including Brick House

They loved my playing and my improv skills

They said they wanted me not only for my playing, it was my attitude that sold them.

I hope you don't think I talk to people I am auditioning for the way I talk to you guys.
