New Dingwall Z-1 Rastaburst Pics!!!!

In terms of cost, I'm not really a public poster of such things, but what I paid is not really relevant to the current cost, due to the fact that I made my deal and paid my deposit in 2005 dollars, not current value. I also have a number of features that also probably skew the end price.

1) like a previous poster, I am not "crazy" about Dingwalls, BUT WOW!!! this is hawt with a capital HAWT!!! not sure I would own one but love to look at it all the same...

2)2005 dollars???? hmmmmmm...did you have to wait 3 years or did you get a "deal" for some reason......or maybe you have a time machine (you do not have to answer....just thought your comment was interesting).....

I'm a very patient bass buyer. ;)

Actually I put my deposit in at a bad time...just when Sheldon had announced the Super-J bass model, and that tossed a monkey wrench into the production schedule. As the Z and Prima basses are pretty much made by Sheldon alone, it takes a while to get through the production list.

For any who may want a chance to try a Dingwall or a fanned fret bass but don't want to spend custom money, please keep a lookout for the new Dingwall production model. It's slated for release in the next 6 months and will be in the price range of many of the upper-mid production basses we see today.

Look for it to be similar to the Lakland Skyline or Sadowsky Metro, etc. Build off shore, but QC and setup by the Dingwall shop. It will be called the combustion.

That is a really cool bass!!! I'm not usually a fan of spalt, but it looks so killing with that finish!!!

Enjoy that beauty in the best of health!!

(All of this talk about gingerbeer has be craving one right now...)

WOW!

The thought and detail that went into this instrument is incredible! Aesthetically beautiful!... and the craftsmanship shows through! How does it sound and what are the pick-ups?
Could Dingwall be a cut above the Sadowsky's and Lakland's?

Whats the cost of this beauty?

Having owned 2 Dingwall Afterburners, and currently an owner of 2 US Laklands, and an import Lakland......... I can testify to the quality of both Sheldon and Dan's work. I wouldn't say Dingwall is a cut above Lakland, that would be like picking a "better" fruit, the apple or the orange. Both builders are leaps ahead of so many other manufacturers, and such radically different design styles and goals (Dingwall vs Lakland that is). Sadowsky's have never interested me since I'm a fan of 35" scale or greater on my 5 and 6 string basses..... I still GREATLY miss that 37" Dingwall B!!

Beautiful bass! And, you picked some of my favorite woods! I love ash w/ maple fretboard basses! How much are you selling it for? ;)

Again, great bass!

What did you do for the lighting to take those pictures? They turned out really well.

The picture set-up is my 'ghetto-studio'. The back drop is two yards of black velvet, on my living room floor. I was using two lamps (cheap-ass clamp on directors from your local Home Depot), one had a regular 100w bulb (background lighting), the other has a full spectrum 200w bulb. Both have white tissue over the bulb to cut glare (be careful! Those bulbs get hot!). The 100w is at a distance of about 3 feet, while the 200w is closer to a foot. The camera is my Canon RebelXT, shooting raw/manual. Most of the shots are hand held between 1/10 and 1/40. I have several tripods, but sometimes you need to get right down in it.

The bigger part of things is...they're WB adjusted in Adobe Lightroom, along with levels, color, etc. Then they're exported to JPG and sent to photoshop for resizing, some unsharp mask, etc. Its amazing how much you can adjust RAW once you have it.

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone! :)

That's just MAGNIFICENT!!:eek::eek:
Gee, I wish I'm rich! =P

If you only knew how 'not rich' I am. It was careful saving, planning and arranging. The end cost of the bass is about 1/5th of my yearly income!

Awesome bass. Superb bass. Dingwall bass!!!! :hyper:

Drop dead gorgeous!!! I am sure you enjoy every moment you're playing it!!!

Thanks! Sadly things have been so busy that I've only had band rehearsal time since I've had it. Between work, personal obligations and a 'renovation' of my living space in the past two months I've been swamped!

I hope you're enjoying your new limited edition Flamed/burst top Super-J five?

The pics look phenomenal.

Thanks! Sheldon really does amazing work. For sale...can't compute...errrr...um....

Actually, I've had offers since before it was finished! Not ever going to leave my hands. I'm a bass buyer, not a seller!
