New DR neon strings

Studio003.gif

Now to get it under blacklights

I have used the DR black beauties and DR Sunbeams. The Sunbeams have a bit smoother tone and softer touch. The DR black beauties are a bit more aggressive, and stay brighter, longer.

I'd love to hear your comparisson of new dr black beauties (as in since theyre useing the same coating formula on them now) compared to the neons. I never did really fully figure out which of the dr strings they are with coating added. Lol. Getting close to the 6 week mark for neons on my eagle. I can only find one nick to the coating. I use heavy gauge pick. Tiny nick is on G string. Gotta use magnifying glass to really see it though. So its looking like 3 month life or better is probable as far as not haveing any significant coating wear.

Getting into the newly broken in sound for the neon greens on my eagle. Right at the 6 week mark. yesterday and for the day before that I was noticeing a slight peak in the treble 2-4k range. This is annoying to me. An area of the upper midrange to lower treble that humans are typically very sensitive to and which can cause listener fatigue or a bit of harshness to the sound. However thats gone today and I think the strings have gone thru theyre main shift for broken in sound. The treble content is slightly less then it was brand new. More like rotosounds are new. The upper midrange thru trreble has returned to its previous wonderfull balance, just a little less upper treble. Kinda like the strings got their broken in sound then rebalanced after a initial bit of harshness to the treble and upper midrange. I like the new sound. I just raise my 6k treble on the bass back up that little bit to where it normally is for rotosounds

Since I havent been playing the bass heavilly these past 6 weeks. It may be more like 3-4 weeks for shifting from new out of box to newly broken in sound for most who play a lot. The couple day period with a bit of annoying lower treble peak like content haveing balanced out as the treble drop off from broken in finishes up. Was starting to worry abit that theyre broken in sound might not be so much to my liking compared to rotosund swing66. But the strings broken in sound is behaving better now sound wise. Lol. So I'm still sold on the neons as best alternate and possible new fave strings with rotosound swing66 as other fave.

Just wanted to give update for string life.

What about low mids on DR Neons?

Id say they have a very nice balance from low bass thru upper treble. Including low mids. A fair amount of strings exagerate or add a peak in the low mids creating a unpleasant tone to me that reminds of annoying boomyness or honk. You can boost the lows as desired if wanted or cut them. But they have a nice to me balance to the bass thru treble with controls flat or bass boosted just a bit. If you like rotosounds, you may well like these to. Low mid content wise etc.

My sound is based on cutting the highs, they are very irritating to my ears....All I want is round, warm, low mid foused tone, with eh solid low end.... I am not fan of rotosound they are too bright for me!
Now... all I want to know is it better to use this strings or DR Sunbeams to achive that tone i dicribed? :hmm:

I think the dr neons can do fine for that. Simply roll down your treble or tone control some. If your pups have adjustable pole peices, you should also try lowering the pole peices a little. As this ussually cuts the upper end a little. I absolutely agree with you that theres part of the treble spectrum which can be anoyying. Same for rotos in my expeirence, but the neons have slightly more focussed low end detail. So while you'll prob cut treble more then me, the neons I think will give you a little added low end articulation which can help growl etc be more distinct.

Thnx darkstorm! That is all I wanted to know! :D

Colors don't intrigue me that much, and I'm not fond of coated strings. I'd be more impressed if DR came out with some nice pressure wound and ground wound strings. I like the Sunbeams and the Marcus Miller strings, but would really like a hybrid of flats and rounds. I like Ken Smith Compressors or GHS Pressurewounds on my fretless, but I'd really like some flat-like strings for my fretted that sound good with slapping. I hate the tacky feel of D'Addario Half Rounds. Hopefully DR will stop with the coating/color gimmicks and offer some new types of strings!
