New EB Cobalt Flats?

To be honest I just installed as normal and had no issues. I have them on a fretless jazz and removed them after one year as usual to clean the fretboard. They went straight back on with no issues again and still sound good.

I just ordered two sets for my 5 strings. Have Chromes on my 4s. Been dying to try the cobalts. I put rounds on one 5er before I found out I like flats, so I haven't been playing it much. Just got another 5 I really like. It came with some super rough rounds. I didn't like the cobalts when I played guitar cause they were bright. That sounds good to me for bass. Can't wait to get them, so I can start gettin my 5 game on.

I'm thinking it might be time to try these again. I've been on a tapewound kick lately, with all three of my basses wearing tapes for a while.

I had a set of Cobalts tuned BEAD on my Schecter Raiden Secial-4 for a few weeks, but that tuning didn't agree with me. I'm a standard tuning kind o guy. I'm ready for something with a little more resistance than tapes; these might be just the ticket.

I'm wondering if there are other former DR Sunbeam users in this thread. I love the sound of broken-in (between 1-6 months old) Sunbeams on my custom bass. Sonically, think of it as a G&L SB-2--there's a warmth with the Sunbeams but still plenty of P-bass grind. Will the Cobalts get me there but with the smooth flat feel and no string noise? There are contradicting opinions on the thread.

That said, the ever increasing stories we are seeing here of strings breaking at the peg on installation are disturbing. I had no such issues but enough folks are to be wary.

I think new Cobalt flats sounds like 6 month nickel rounds. Not sure if they sounds like 6 month old Sunbeams as I haven't used sunbeams in a long time. Only one way to really find out...

As a long time Hi-Beam and Sunbeam user I have to say that the Cobalt Flats found a happy plae with me, nor did I ever get to a point where I found them similar. Lately I had found hi beams getting clankier and harsher. That's probably just my taste changing as time goes by bt these were never a replacement for either round wound.

Havent posted in this thread in a while. I've had these on my P5 for the better part of a year and im still nuts about them!

A very little bit of the top end has gone away as they aged, but they honestly havent changed in the past 6 out of 8 months. That initial "stickiness" is long gone as well.

I keep rounds on one bass but the rest are getting these as i cycle through.
