Are you planning on one with flats and one with rounds ?

The Starry Night was great , but these are over the top !!!

If you look at the back outer rim of the basses, you can see the slight color shift . Looks like a rainbow shadow. I love it!!

For the gig coming up next Saturday, I'm going to keep rounds on both basses, and just use one for each set. After that, one will get rounds and one flats (not sure which is which yet; any suggestions appreciated).

And yes, all my bandmates and friends who have seen the Mystique so far agree that it is much flashier and prettier than the Starry Night.

Once we get some sunlight, I'll post some good color shift photos, and I'll post some gig photos after next Saturday (though this is a smaller, darker stage than some others I play on).

If you are asking about which bass should get flats…..if one seems to have more snap and brightness when they both have fresh rounds , keep the rounds on that one.

For suggestions on which flats….. Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalts or TI Flats. One the cobalts are well broken in , they feel great and warm up. But that will always be a bright flat.

Thanks for the flats suggestion, but I'm way ahead of you on that one . TI Jazz Flats have been my go to flats for over a decade. BUT, I like to keep one P bass strung with an old set of Slinky Cobalts for that Jamerson tone.

As to which one to string with flats, you're absolutely right. I was being kind of silly and trying to base it on color, but tone is obviously the better metric. I'll let you know after next Saturday which one is going flats and which one is staying rounds.

If they came active, I'd be all over one of those. As it is, I'll just stick with my Sterling version.

I wonder why no active version aside from the elusive Commerford? I think at least a few of us would be all over it. An active short scale Stingray is what I wanted from the beginning, but a couple of years ago I let the only used one I have ever seen in Canada pass me by on Reverb because it was $3000. Haha! What a bargain that'd be in 2025!

Oh I see it's not so elusive after all ... sorry EBMM! ... an active Commerford is my first hit on this morning's Reverb ... but only for sale in the USA, which is kind of an issue for me in terms of taxes and other things starting with t.

I’m pretty sure you are looking at standard 34 scale models. The short scale actives were a very limited run of 50.

Well, after a gig and three rehearsals, I've determined (and all bandmates agree) that my Goldbar and my Mystique play and sound the exact same (they also both weigh the same amount). I'm absolutely stunned at the consistency between the two.

The gig was on a pretty dark stage, but a friend captured a few decent pics:
