New EBMM Short Scales 2025

I have loved Stingray short scales from the moment I got my hands one. Now that my regular player situation is settled, I can see picking of a SS Stingray for fun and variety. It could be a travel bass too although something less expensive would better for travel. I recently played a short scale SBMM and it sounded alright, but the construction was not inspiring. The real deal would make for a fun retirement bass.

Great idea!! Now pick a finish . It must be something different than black or natural .

There are more detailed pics in the Vault. Looks like a silver / grey to black burst with black headstock. Might be very small sparkle with very fine flakes .

Black headstock on the Oxblood is a nice touch.

Yeah, it doesn't exactly match but it looks good with the ebony board and black guard. I fell in love with a friend's Rolls Burgundy Bongo long ago and this bass is a nice reminder. Showtime is cool with the sparkle, but I agree with @dave64o that the black hardware on that color isn't the best. I think Showtime *might* do better with a black headstock, too.

Anyway, Oxblood should be here soon.

On the Showtime finish, they put gold pole pieces. They should have went gold hardware as well instead of black.
I agree that black headstock would have been a good fit as well. Ebony or rosewood works for the fingerboard.

I have to ask. Is it really 4 time better than a Sterling Short Scale? It’s about 4 times the price.

I own two of the EBMM short scales, and I've played three of the SBMM short scales (but only one at a gig), and yes, the EBMM short scales are that much better. Which is saying something, because the SBMM ones are really good basses.

I love the new finishes, but since I already own two, I can't see getting another one. However, the guitarist in my primary band mostly plays an oxblood Jazzmaster, and it would be cool to have a matching color bass. Plus, the Mystique is really great, and the classic natural reminds me of my first full scale Stingray. It's a good thing I have a wife who is an accountant; otherwise, I'd probably buy three more.

Uh oh. I just went to The Vault to take a good look at each color, and I realized that Mystique is a green-teal-blue color changer, just like my Goldbar is a green-gold-orange color changer. My wife thinks that the Mystique is prettier than my Starry Night, and I agree. This may be a new purchase, and I might sell my Starry Night. Standby for updates...

Mystique will arrive tomorrow. In the meantime, here is what MM Customer Service says about how many they're making of each color this round:

"We will likely limit each color this time around to 25 of each. It could be more or less, depending upon how quickly they are ordered."

I have a Starry Night SC SR and a SBMM Daphne blue SC stingray and I'll settle this right here and now. The Starry Night is 3.265x better than the SBMM stingray
