Ok now that we know they sound great in passive...can we get the Special 5 with a passive/active switch?

Please don’t give a reason to have to buy another Special 5. If they release another Special 5 with mutes and passive / active option ….. just take my money now !!!

If it's like the passive circuit from the USA SUBs 15-20 years ago, it would have a bass/treble control. I had a passive SUB fretless and they worked quite well. Sounded fantastic.

My understanding is that it was a pretty unique in-house circuitry design that was used in a limited amount in those basses. They wouldn't say too much about them on the EBMM forums, but I suspect these have some lineage to those, if the controls are the same.

Same here. My T.C. passive shorty (#23 of 50) is one of my prized possessions. I paid almost 4K € for it, but I would MUCH rather have it than the money.

NOTE: I bought it "used". It had been purchased, played once, then returned. It still had the plastic protection on the pickguard and pickup. Because it was "used", I didn't have to pay any extra taxes or import duty. [Photo by the owner of the guitar boutique in Estonia who I purchased it from.]

I suppose. But nothing hugely different. Nothing that you couldn’t change out on your own if you wanted. Most of the signature bases are just to sell product because of the name.

The first round sold out quick fast and in a hurry .

Looks like the blue passive sold out and only 5 of the green are left in the EBMM vault / store .
Maybe some dealers will get one of the 50 units available in each color .
I think you can still order more. Might have been the few that had on hand already built for release date.

Guess we have our answer haha. Not surprised though, seems like a good product.

Yes, but. It's variable height, spring-loaded and there's a cut-out in the body for it. You'd be left with a hole in the pickguard and the body. You'd need to get a new pickguard to cover that up.

I should have added that you can screw it down so it's flush with the pickguard. Basically the same as removing it.

the controls are the same as on the passive short scales

the three way pot gives you parallel, single coil, or series.

The “boost” is a push/push on the volume control. When pushed in, labeled “normal,” it actually attenuates the entire signal. Pressing it causes the knob to pop out and removes that attenuation making the signal a few dB hotter. It can be useful in leveling out volumes between the three modes where the Series mode is louder than the other two but I almost always leave mine pushed in
