Brad, do you have any pictures of your elricks? I remember you had a hollowbody NJS fretless and a red/purple NJS fretted. Are those still around?

Sure. I sent the red one back to Electric City, IRL it was way too close to the magenta color of Barney for my taste... red would've been fine;)

Jeez, those are beautiful. You have excellent taste in basses. Every single one I've seen you post has been stunning.

I got them from THG knobs, they're ebony with burled maple caps. They have a flair at the bottom, like the platic ones it had before. They did an excelent job of matching the burls, it looks almost like it's from the same piece,and it's a really crazy top.

I may send the pictures to Rob, i'm certain other customers have wanted wood knobs.

i also thought about getting Areo's with wood covers when i ordered it, but i feared how they might sound, i have had other basses with barts.

How do the areo's compare to the barts? I know they were a $400 upcharge when i got my bass...

woah, $400??

i've heard the Aero's in a Matt Pulcinella jazz and was knocked out by them. it was a passive bass, but it had the kick of a notched up active bass. very impressive.

but i've talked to Larry and he said that he personally thinks active pre's only take away from the mostly passive Aero's. he's also incredibly opinionated, so i kinda fluffed it off. still, he is the designer. i wonder how he winds his pickups for Fodera, then... :hmm:

The bass came today!

:eek: OH MY GOD! :eek:

This bass is AMAZING! It sounds like the voice of GOD.

My other Elrick is a really early example of Rob's work. It has a black plastic electronics cover, unlike the current matched wood covers. The new bass compares interestingly with the old one. I can definitely see that Rob's skill as a luthier has taken massive leaps since he built the older bass. The body edge on the 6er is fairly sharp. Ive always found that a tad annoying, it digs into my forearm while playing. The new bass is completely ergonomic. This is the most comfortable bass I've ever held.

One thing that pleasantly surprised me is the frets. They are TINY. I believe they are somewhere between a guitar and mandolin size. This should facilitate some really great low action. Unfortunatly, electric city music did a pretty shoddy setup. I've tweaked the truss rod a bit to get the action lower but I don't want to rush it. It should be playing fantastically in a couple days.

I'm not sure what's better, opening the case for the first time, or playing it...



When my bass arrived in the mail from ECM, the action was all screwed up. I figured it had gotten messed up in the shipping process(chicago->wisconsin->chicago)
All i had to do was mess with the bridge. I'm scared to touch the truss rods, two truss rods on a neckthrough... i'd screw something up. I ended up paying 3rd coast to set it up that spring.

My guess is that ECM didn't do a setup. I personally wouldn't expect them to. They have no idea how you'd like it... unless of course you told them;)

My 4 (my only fretted Elrick) has the small frets too and it's a dream to play. How could something that light sound that HUGE?

Congrats. Guess you'll be keeping it, huh?
