how much difference in the price between the MIM fender and the warmoth is the question???? IIRC warmoth charges a steep price to do custom painting

New Fender Antigua models...

I just noticed, the pickguard (or scratchplate for you folks with bad teeth) also is painted snotburst. That really makes it for me. I agree with the '70s bridge pup spacing call Dluxe.
Same here, the original Atiguas looked kinda blingy. The dots-only maple necks on these new ones look just right to me.
Plus, those 70's Antiguas represent a low point in Fender's QC. At least these new Atiguas aren't too reminiscent of that Fender era.
I see this latest version of Antiguas as New and Improved, both cosmetically and functionally. I got a darn good playing/sounding P bass. And I like the way it looks, to boot.
Tried a J and a P at Boulard in Morges, through a Mesa Carbine M6 and a Mesa 610. Good sounding basses, both had nice rigid necks and were very resonant and sounded like they should.
The green part of the burst is pure military olive green, quite different than the grey-green bile colour of the '70s basses. Looks cool, Though I think they could have made the new colour a bit glossier for better effect.
Anyway, nice basses both, worth the price and something different aesthetically.

'Picked up an FSR Antigua Strat from Elderly Instruments, of Lansing , MI.
Shipped set up to PERFECTION! I don't know if Elderly set it up or the factory, but DAMN!, it plays fantastic. Flawless fit and finish, as well. 'LOVE IT!

I went back to the HOG and played one today plugged in. I A-B-ed it to several USA P basses The MIM Antigua was the best of the lot by far. Played and sounded great. Fender has done a really, really nice job on these don't let the MIM scare you off.

I'm starting to sweat cuz a dull ache is beginning in my chest, and it's making me really nervous. I really REALLY love the jazz, and now that ache for a P is startng to slowly turn to chronic gas. I'm not sure if that warrants a

.But I have an important question for ya'll that know more about these things than I.
Aside from the obvious, are there any differences between this P, and one of the other cheaper MIM Ps? I've satisfied my antigua urges, just want a really good P bass and I'm wondering if I should just go cheaper and get another color. If there are differences can you please explain. Thanks.

Guys, I will say the MIM Antigua P pickup measures out at 5 ohms. A real Fender P should be between 9 and 11. I found a gray bottomed 1978 Fender P pickup for mine locally on CL. Also installed CTS pots (bigger btw, youll have to expand holes on pickguard), and a SwitchCraft jack. Also picked up a true late 70s Fender tone cap, the Circle D .05 100v cap, and a vintage neck plate gasket, along with a new (70s RI) Fender neck plate. Although I'm happy with the hardware, I hope to score real, late 70s bridge and tuners. After that, the only thing new will be the neck and body, which I believe are levels above the "real" late 70s models. Fit and finish for both neck and body are first rate, and the fret work is spot on. My Antigua P has quickly went from impulse buy to viable vintage tone machine! Hope you all enjoy yours!
Serious question, and this may have no simple answer: what difference does output impedance have on a pickup? Does it merely suggest underwinding?
Well, last night I had an audition for a spot that I really wanted. I took P's as they are comfortable and familiar, like your favorite pair of beat up sneakers.
I also took the antigua P as well with the hopes of just hearing it at volume towards the end of the night.
At the last second, I grabbed it before we started going through the material.......classic rock, 80's and more recent stuff. Nothing complex. Just good shake your butt music.
It killed! Ran through the Kilo set totally flat. Rolled the tone knob back on the P just enough to tame the harsh bite of the highs when you pull her hair. For a power trio, the bass more than did it's job, sounding really full with great clarity.
I got a little nervous when we got to some drop D stuff as I had been asked to tune in D#/Eb as soon as I walked in. Even then, the bass sounded great.
Another interesting note. This poor guys basement studio had been flooded just last Saturday due to a horrific storm. The bass went from a nice, dry air conditioned home to an environment near 100% humidity that was sweltering. The neck and action DID NOT BUDGE.
I kept telling myself to grab the other P but refused to after every single song. I played this thing the entire night.
At the end of the night the guitar player told me that bass (and I) sounded fantastic. Most importantly, they told me that they would happily cancel the remaining auditions if I wanted the spot.
Part of me is embarassed that I have fallen in love with an MIM P of all things. OTOH, I just smile every time I hear a groove on this thing.
I may have to buy another one and just leave it in the box. Best 750.00 that I have ever spent. It must be the antigua color that gives the bass it's voice.

I have played mine (the P) on several jobs and it is a champ! I can't say that it is better than my 62RI or my 57RI, but it is right up there....and like you I agree....best $750 I believe that I have ever spent on a bass.

I would take this bass any day of the week and twice on Sunday...and you're right - best bass under $1,000 hands down!
Understood! No big deal....shoot they're not for everyone. I'm not the worlds biggest fan of the color as well, but the more I see it, the more I'm drawn to it.
Man, these look awesome!! Congrats to you guys that bagged one (or both) of these. I have a Roadworn Jazz and Classic P and love them both. I wasn't jonesing for another bass till I saw these. The specs on the Jazz is screaming to me, but I can't be listening.
