Just saw this on the Fender site. Looks interesting, Tube pre, 600 watts. Also a combo version, 2x10, head is removeable, (racked), pushes 400 watts through internal spkrs, 600 w/ ext. Could be a nice alternative choice in amps. I'm not in the market, but you know how it is when you see a shiny thing...

Have I somehow wound up on everyone's ignore list? Just looking for some parcipitation here, people respond to some of the most useless posts, and ignore my attempts to have a meaningful conversation related to actual gear. Just wondering, not paranoid, yet.

I'm more interested in the bass in one of the pictures. I looks like a Jazz Bass 24 in Flat black. They have a picture of this bass in the MF website with the Jazz Bass 24 but not as an option to buy. They also don't have it as an option in their product showcase.

That looks like a pretty sweet head! I love the sound of the TBP-1, as heard on Basstasters. I dig the silver/black scheme.

Two drawbacks for me - 48 lbs., and minimum load is 4 ohms. Still, I'd love to hear it, hooked up to this...Invalid Link Removed

I agree that 48 lbs is overkill. So is the 100 lb. combo. But I think the general bass playing community outside of this website won't be as turned off by that spec.

Like the last 210 combo they released, the 400 PRO I think, I also wonder how much tech is borrowed or shared with the SWR wing. This combo is within 50 watts on the new Redhead and the last one was, too. I'm not in the business, so maybe another person knows, but don't the two divisions, SWR and Fender bass amps, compete? I always assumed that the axing of the SWR preamps was an effort to direct sales to the Fender TPB and wondered why they would build competing products in the combo arena.

That lightweight fender head for guitar has been out for a few years. I am guessing that if they had made one for bass they could have had a winner.

I don't understand this fuss over the weight? My Bassman400H weighs 50 lbs. It has a large tolex covered wood case with rackmount. The 4x10 Pro SL cab weighs 90 lbs. I don't lug the gear around alot, but it's not heavy enough to make me want to by a 10 lb bass head and a 30 lb cab. The 48 lbs is probably shipping weight anyway.

I always wondered what people do to keep those lightweight amp heads from bouncing off the speaker cabs? Velcro? :eyebrow:

I like the looks of the new Fender gear. ;)

looks kinda cool. not really that heavy, try lugging an svt around

I recently got the Fender TB-600 Pro head and was in love from the moment I plugged in. I hadn't heard a whole lot in the past about Fender heads, except that the guy from Green Day played them for a while; but after recently going to see Janes Addiction with Eric Avery back on bass, I was sold. Avery is one of my favorite all time players and he was rocking the TB-1200 with 2 6x10 cabs and 2 15's and he, as always, sounded incredible. Granted, I was hearing it coming through the house mains, compressed and everything else, but the tone was excellent. He has always had excellent tone, so that seemed like a reliable endorsement to me.

I had been in the market for a new head since selling my SVT Classic a while back when my last band was dropped from Interscope. (I still kick myself for doing that but I didn't play it for a year and was on hiatus). We still have an artist deal with Fender and I was able to get the TB-600 Pro for like 65% off MSRP. These heads go for $1200 or so new, so needless to say I got a good deal. It was either that or shell out for another SVT, and though I love the SVT and think its about the best bass amp ever, I wanted something rackmountable, a little lighter, etc.

Now to the amp: Its the Fender Tube Pre (Two 12 AX7's I believe) married to a 600 watt solid state power amp which results in massive amounts of headroom and very warm, adjustable tone. Some argue that tubes in the pre stage doesn't make a whole lot of difference in the tone and that having them in the power stage is where it counts, but I'd have to disagree, or make an exception with this head because the thing is just WARM. You can engage the 'tube overdrive' section and dial in and blend myriad of tone, from subtle warm vintage Bassman style tone to full on gnarly overdrive. Its got a really comprehensive eq stage as well but I'm not going to continue on about. This amp definitely shapes and ads its characteristic sound to your tone, so if you are someone who wants a GK or a head that only gives 100% accurate rendition of your bass, then this head isn't for you.

Bottom line, I've played, recorded and toured for years with GK's, Ampegs, etc. and this is one of the best heads I have ever played through. I haven't had it for long, so time will tell, but so far so good.
