I wish the P's had J necks, they both look cool, depending on how they play/sound, I can see myself getting one or the other

I played the P yesterday. On the positive side, the wcp finish is gorgeous. Otherwise I thought it was a junker. The sound wasn't anything that I would want to hear, the pots may as well have been on off switches for all the good they did. The fret work and neck finish was shoddy. And I can't imagine how anybody would confuse these necks for jazz necks. I also played a Squier Matt Freeman that blew it out of the water for $150 less.
Awww, man. What a bummer! I figured if the body and neck were sound, I'd upgrade the rest seeing as its an inexpensive axe that's so easy on the eyes. But now I'm wondering. Let's hope that P bass was just a lemon. I've still got my fingers crossed for the J.
If I could find an unloaded j body in that wcp for cheap I'd probably get it for a project because the finish is so damn pretty in person.
My plan was that the BT J would be a bit of a project, backup axe. I figured as long as the body and neck were on par with a conventional MIM J, then it's be worth it. Of course, a nice Warmoth neck with maple board would likely work very well with the J. But then I start to think, "does this make sense?" New bass, new neck, new pickups, new pots... money pit? folly?
Blacktop P, black with a black tort pickguard and maple fretboard. I would buy one instantly if they made it.
Got to play a Jazz and a P yesterday, both were great. I almost bought the Jazz (I still may, I just wanted to sleep on it a bit) The dual P pickups are fantastic, I dont think the neck pickup is in quite the same spot as the P sweet spot, but it sounds in the ball park for sure. The bridge pickup was alot better than I expected, not bright or thin, very beefy and growly. It was very impressive with both pickups on, similar to a normal Jazz (but I dont think anyone would confuse one for the other) This bass is just begging for series wiring IMO

For someone wanting a "different sounding" bass, that would be a good one to look at, but right now, I'm looking for more "classic" sounds

The J bass with the dual P pickups sounded hollow.

Just for poop and giggles...put a 57 maple neck on the blacktop to see what it look like.
Yes! YES! This is what we should call a Mega-Precision. Just add chrome P knobs instead of the Jazz ones - pure awesomeness.
I played a Blacktop jazz at the store yesterday for about 20 minutes or so. Not sure if it was the bass or the GK rig I was playing through, or both, but it sounded GREAT!
