"New" Fender P Bass . . .

I suppose it couldn't hurt to ask. Should I have expected a discount since the bass fender shipped to my dealer in June of this year (had to order not in store stock) was made in April 2013?
I don't think they would have given me one.
What is the cutoff? 1yr? 2,3,?
After all the bass is new in that it has no playing wear, and has a full warranty. Maybe I made a mistake, and should have asked?

Thanks for all the great advice everyone, and I've decided to keep it.

I was leaning that way even before reading all the above as I couldn't help falling in love with it.

However, one poster hit the nail on the head with the game show analogy. It's a perfectly fine instrument but if I return it I could get Zonked, lol.

To answer some questions:

- It has the Alder body.

- No, it wasn't advertised as a 2014. But the ad copy did say "new."

- I thought about asking for a store credit, like some suggested, and they'd probably give it to me. (They were very friendly when I contacted them.) But I'm very happy with what I received and besides from what I understand this is a very small Mom & Pop music store so all's well. Now if it was Guitar Center . . .

Always ask for a discount. I always have, and my requests have always been honored, even with the big on line retailers. Musicians Friend always gives me at least 20% off their advertised prices.

Edit: The above is referring to new merchandise. Thirty percent from a mom and pop for new is not unusual, IME.

I got my 58 for 1699.00 out the door.. MF,GC, and everyone else online wants 1999.00 so I think I did okay

... just for clarification .. this bass is referred to as THE 60th Anniversary model ... one comment implied that because it was the ' Anniversary Model', it would possibly be worth more down the road... this looks to be a very nice bass (kudos to OP!!), but it is simply a Precision Bass that was built in 2011, which just happened to be the 60th anniversary of the Precision ... every P bass put out in 2011 got the neckplate, but there is only one commemorative model, and that is the link below ... taking absolutely nothing away from the OP's new bass, but I constantly see ads by people listing their 2006 Fender 'something-or-other' as an 'Anniversary Model' ... that usually is not the case, as there were very specific 'Anniversary Models', yet EVERY bass put out that year received the dime size medallion on the headstock ... these are anniversary year basses, nothing more .... not 'Anniversary Models' ...

.. with regards to potential misrepresentation on OP bass, it would only be possible to judge if the ad that it was purchased from was available to read .... there are a LOT of ads that are selling older than current model year basses (that are brand new, never sold/registered) that use the current model year specs in their ad ... IF an 'older' model year basss was listed this way (2014 specs, list price, etc) there may be an issue .. even if NOT stated that it was a 2014 model, it would imply it within the ad 'description' (for instance, did the ad list CS pups in the specs?) ... also, list and street prices were different for 2011 and 2014 ... JMHO
