New Fender series: MODERN PLAYER

If they're marketing them as 'modern' they should look or sound different than 'traditional Fender' IMHO.
What they really need to do is get together with Fred Hammon and make a Fender Berry Oakley Signature "Tractor" Jazz Bass. MIA not CS, I want to be able to afford it.
That's like putting fuel injection, anti-lock brakes, and GPS in a Model T and calling it modern.

My monetary conversions aren't very good... but those look like MiM prices!
I'm stoked on the Tele.
The thought of a MiM Jag is rad too... something (hypothetically) a step up from the Squier VM, but not quite the CiJ.
We'll see if they make it over here!

First thing that popped into my mind was "Oooh. Squiers with Fender decals!"

Anybody seen the Fender "pawnshop" version of the Squier '51? Took a great little guitar with cult status off the market so they could rebadge it and turn a bigger profit. The only thing "pawnshop" about that is, instead of someone sticking a Fender decal on a Squier and selling it out of a shady shop, Fender has eliminated the middleman.

i dont mind them, definitely not Fender tradition but i guess they are trying to appeal to the player.

Exactly. You wouldn't call a car updated that way a classic. Obviously it was updated to be used for things it was not originally designed for. That is what Fender is getting at with the "player" part. These are supposed to be classic designs but updated with common mods and such that make them more useful for modern music.
Someday, the people of this thread will talk about something else besides Fender's really stupid series name.
It sells. It maintains market share. It doesn't strain their production lines. It appeals to existing customers.
Cirrus fans need not apply.
