The 13.00 import guards on Amazon are really nice , and fit perfectly. I had a Spitfire, didn't bond with it, and went back to the import.

New Fender Vintera II Road Worn Basses

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's all the opposite in this case: look for how much the old roadworns go and compare it to the American Pros (I, II) and even Avri/Av/Ao...
Small amount of acetone on a cotton swab -- I suggest using acetone-base nail polish remover if you've never tried it before.
I use 100% acetone, but that's mighty strong and can damage/dull the plastic if you aren't careful (I'm an old hand after doing this process on about 6 of these).
The nail polish remover has a much smaller percentage of acetone, so takes a bit of light rubbing with the swab.
Still, proceed with care and caution, and definitely BEFORE you install it.

I’ve had a GZR in my Fender American Standard P for a couple years and have thought about removing the logo.
Received mine on Friday and thought I would share some thoughts. No pics 'cause I'm lazy.
Out of the box all was good, just had to tune it up and lower the string height just a little to personal taste.
Weight is good at 8.4lbs with no neck dive sitting. I messed up my knee and on crutches so I couldn't judge standing dive.
It does come with the same hard-shell case as the US basses which is a nice addition.
I got the Charcoal Frost Metallic, and to me it's more a dark pewter color with the metallic bits not really visible at all.
The Paint job, relic'ing and over all fit and finish are excellent. The relic'ing is subtle and not overly done.
The nitro was very sticky on the neck at first but after playing it for a few days it's gotten better. Still sticky but better.
I have little to no experience with a neck of it's dimensions 1.75 at the nut and 7.25 radius. My favorite necks are the modern
P and J so I was worried I wouldn't like it.
Happy to say it's pretty comfortable. I can most definitely feel the larger width but quickly getting used to it and it's not at all
uncomfortable to play.
Couldn't really tell much difference between the 7.25 and the standard 9.5 radius.
The neck front to back is much thinner than I thought it would be and from just looking/feeling seems to taper starting around the 7th fret
getting a little thicker towards the bottom.
It really reminds me of the neck feel on my Ibanez SR605 which sounds crazy to say.
The pickups are pretty good overall. It does have a darker tone quality to it. I'm not good at describing intricate sound details,
but It sounds like a 60's P bass should sound I guess.
I did a comparison between them a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder, EMG Geezer and a Seymour Duncan Vintage.
The QP is my favorite P pickup so it was obviously going to be first. The Vintera did come in second with the Geezer a very close third.
The output of the Vintera is quite lower than the others though.
Wrapping it up, I would say the Vintera II RW is a very good bass. It really is a quality feeling instrument.
The $1600 price tag is a little much though. But, it does come with the case so that adds a little to the price.
I would say maybe $1300-1400 would be a better price point.
I recently was able to play a number of new American P's and would place the Vintera well above the Performer
and equal with the Pro II in overall feel and sound.
The Ultra II they had was horrible to play due to setup and bad fret sprout. I actually cut my
hand a little it was so bad.

Very nice and honest review. I like the fact that these are subtle in the relic. It seems like the finish is weakened or aged enough that regular playing will relic it faster but it'll be your personal relic and not something pre-determined.
Certain listings show a vintage style case, others show the normal modern case that comes with US basses. Which one did you guys get with yours?
So I THOUGHT I was getting this bass in the Charcoal Frost Metallic finish from Musicians Friend. Placed an order on September 18th. But some special MF employee or UPS guy screwed up and the instrument has been making a tour of the Eastern half of the US ever since. This was from my most recent email exchange with these guys:

I don't blame you; however, it seems to me that the issue is with UPS and not with MF.
I got mine last week after ordering from Guitar Center. I got the Charcoal Frost Metallic as well. The bass is great…sound, fit/finish, relic job, playability, etc. are all spot on. Mine came with the Classic Style case. I was disappointed, the ABS case is a much nicer case IMO. The box was directly as it shipped to the GC warehouse from Fender. So these are shipping with both cases and it seems to be a crap shoot which one you will get…
MF has been aware of the issue since the FIRST trip back to Kansas. They’ve had a significant amount of time to work with UPS to fix it, and the bass is still going around in circles.
The original Road Worn Jazz bass was available in both 3 tone sunburst and Fiesta Red. I'm sure there are some out there on the secondary market!
