New G&L model at NAMM - MJ-4!

Yet another attempt by G&L to be just like everyone else. Volume, Pan, Bass, Midrange, Treble. Been there, done that.

You know, I try to step back from being critical of something until I experience it. But that was my first thought almost word for word as soon as I glanced at the pic. I read the description HOPING it wasn't just another volume, pan, low, mid, treble preamp. So it's pretty much exactly like their other J with a not so original preamp?

Why are you guys not ok with that?
G&L now have a J bass that will appeal to guys who want an active J.
Their new preamp is nice; and the stacked side-by-side hum-cancelling J's are a good move too.

I see only good things here. If you want the passive model, they still make it.

Why G&L, doin' it all better than anyother out there, decided to follow everyone else's path?

Because plenty of people, myself included, strongly dislike the L-series preamp. It's cool that they give us the choice, though!

Exactly! a 5 string version and maybe with min 18mm at bridge and I´ll be all over it.

Hey, you wide-spacing fiver guys have plenty of choices, especially for jazz basses. Leave the narrow-spacing options we have alone. :p

fwiw, without having played this (obviously), I'd think the M-series preamp would be a muuuuuch better thing for any J-bass spec than the L-series preamp.

And yes, this is USA made (for now?)

I've owned a slew of G&L's and played the L2000 for years, but now own a few US JB2's. Quite frankly IMO the JB2 is the best playing instrument G&L has ever built and is better than any bouquet J bass. I just acquired another one that I plan on replacing the pickups with Duncan Hot Stacks and an Aguilar preamp. I think this a great move by G&L and puts them to compete with basses costing much much more.

props for JB-2. I coursed through some JB-2s and L-2000's when first getting serious about bass, and think the JB-2 is massively under-recognized. Stock, they are very nice - but I put nordstrands on one, and it was amazing...wish I'd not sold that one.
